Default Decklid Mesh Grill

Found some extra grill mesh in the garage yesterday and started messing around with ideas for a mesh decklid grill.

Havent seen any 993 Mesh Grill DIY on here but wanted to get some thoughts, initially the idea was to add some silver since the plastic grill is fading.

... from the underside
Windy Dog did the same mod but with a different style mesh.

EDIT
WD, installed his from the top, and the edging matl he used, fills the topside gap nicely! The OEM grill is NOT utilized, as it is replaced by the mesh grill.

I will see if I can get him to post a few pics... but he is currently busy with a supercharger install.

Been toying with this idea too. Is the mesh visible form the topside or do you still have the standard grill on there?

Mine is visible, I removed the OEM grill.

I went from the underside so now I have to think of a solution for the gap on top

Why not put it on top? Use bolts with washers to go through the holes already in the decklid.

Found an old air deflector laying around yesterday and thought about turning it around and making it a air scoop, it fit perfect in the grill area.
Obvious pro would be air, any cons to this ?

IMHO, the mesh should be black. The 'silver' mesh is too bright. Not sure of the scoop IMHO. I don't know just how the air flow goes back there, in or out of the grill. I would think with the scoop so far forward, the air would go in (scooped) and the go right out right behind the scoop, path of least resistance, and do little to cool the engine. Maybe the air intake to the engine sees a little cooler air. Also not sure if the scoop disrupts the aerodynamics of the rear wing.

Interesting ideas, good luck and let us know how this goes!!!!

Potentially partially defeating the purpose of the RS tail?

The pro I think the scoop would help more airflow into the engine bay. The con might be the aesthetics it looks cleaner without for sure. I like the mesh, but had wondered about airflow on that. If you look at the original grill it's slats are facing forwards a little like mini scoops. You lose that with the mesh.

I think the scoop might look pretty cool & unique. would want to see the side profile of the car w the scoop positioned.
The mesh is virtually like having an open hatch, so I'd think air supply is no problem.
Maybe a light gunmetal finish on the mesh? Or a clearcoat to inhibit rust.

I am all over the mesh though and plan to do a similar design but mount from underneath and retain the RS tail louvers on top.

Thanks for the thoughts everyone.

I tried the mesh from bottom, top, scoop, no scoop.... and ended up like this...

I think I will need to find a better mesh material soon, but heres the concept. I think the scoop was too high, I need to find one lower and subtle I think. But the GT3's have used this in the past.
