Default HELP!! No "R, 1st, 2nd or N"

Went out for a drive ...close by... Thank God!!! ..... and went to shift from 2nd to 3rd and something grinded, popped or came out type sound when I shifted ... not exactly sure what the hell happened ? ? ? No dash lights....... at that point I only had 3rd gear. Coasted to a dreaded Stop Light and started out in 3rd gear because no 1st or 2nd ....good thing it was level .... Luckily I got her home in 3rd "barely" was sweating bullets and prayed no more lights or cars in front of me stopping ...and pulled her into my garage head on. Appears that 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th are ok but when I try R, 1st or 2nd or put it in N ....car just stalls out when I release the clutch and won't move. I have to have the clutch in for the car to move freely. Any thoughts? I recently just had the FD short shifter put in with Golden Rod and FD HD Transmission Mount. Think something popped out or came loose? Either way will go up to my mechanic this week via flatbed. I have 31K miles and have had zero transmission issues. Thanks!

Without the engine on, can you go through the gears and "feel it" through the gears? I too have the FD SSK/GR. One feature as you know is it is notchy. Since you touched the shift linkage maybe one of the bolts on the golden rod that attaches to the front cross member subframe got loose

or the ssk rod that attaches to the transmission got loose?

Sorry to hear your troubles... hopefully it is a quick fix to sort it out.

Just went out ... with the engine "off" I can put it up into R, then 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 effortlessly with the clutch depressed. If there was a transmission issue I doubt I would be able to move through the gears. Thanks for the illustration Samurai ... again I heard a "pop" or something came out when I shifted ... I am thinking something has happened with the shift linkage... "praying" Clutch only has a few thousand miles on it.

I highly doubt it’s your transmission. Most likely one of the linkages worked on previously came off.

When your “short shifter” was installed the shift guide tube bushings had to be flipped top to bottom. They are secured by two circ clips and the attachment isn’t too robust. My guess is one of these slipped and you lost the guide tube function.

Most of this stuff is pretty easy to see and diagnose once you remove all those 10mm nuts holding on the center cover. the gear shift mechanism is really simple. Have you taken a look?

I haven't she is parked. I leave this type of stuff up to my mechanic. I don't have a lift yet just a jack. He will get it sorted once I get her up there this week and will report back on the diagnosis. Thanks

UPDATE - Well NOT GOOD! AS I SUSPECTED. My mechanic swung by and verified the issue .....it's stuck in 3rd gear.... and either 1. Shift Fork broke off or 2. could be a Synchro but he won't know till he cracks the case ... either way #$@! So with that .......engine out it is! Only good thing is he will go through the box and tidy everything up..."while he is in there kinda stuff" ... CHA-CHING! . Can't get it there till next week as he is a bit backed up with other projects. Oh well ...
