Porsche Denies It Has Decided To Build 4th Series

FRANKFURT -(Dow Jones)- Luxury sports carmaker Porsche AG (G.POR)Friday denied a report saying it has already decided
to start building a fourth series of models and intends to unveil its plans in mid-2002.

The carmaker has long been considering the addition of a fourth model line to its palette, but "absolutely nothing has been decided," said Porsche spokesman Manfred Ayasse. He was referring to a report in Friday's Financial Times Deutschland, which cited sources from auto suppliers. He called the newspaper report "complete nonsense."

Porsche is now concentrating on the sports utility vehicle Cayenne, expected to debut late in summer or in autumn this
year. Porsche's annual vehicle sales will leap by more than 25,000 with the Cayenne, from 54,586 in its last fiscal year.

"We have said that our growth may not be ended with the Cayenne," Ayasse said. However, "it's cooking on a low flame"
right now.

The report said Porsche would build a big coupe similar to DaimlerChrysler AG (DCX) unit Mercedes-Benz's CL or Bayerische Motoren Werke AG's (G.BMW) planned 6-Series, in a move to cater to older drivers who want a bigger, more comfortable sports car than Porsche's 911 or Boxster.

Porsche would build the new series at its new plant in Leipzig, Germany, the newspaper said.
