Red face Changing Steering wheel

Purchased a very nice Momo wheel for my 993, and later learned that there are 3-4 hours labour involved in removing the existing one due to the need to avoid the airbag activation. Any comments welcome.

Yes I have a comment. Watch the Viper crash video that was posted some time back and you will return the wheel (as I did).

I replaced my steering wheel with the MOMO Jet wheel. It only took the shop 1 hour to do everything. It ran me about 80 bucks.

When you install a momo wheel on a 993 you must purchase a spacer so the wheel doens't sit almost touching the signals arms. I have an extra spacer if you want it.

Jim, I had an OPC change my airbag steering wheel for another air bag steering wheel (2 chances for them to activate the airbag
) and it took them tops 1 hour.

Jim
I switched mine myself and it took no more than an hour. The only tricky part I remember is getting the two bolts out of the back of the steering wheel which actually hold the air bag in place. I wound up taking a screw driver and grabbing it with vice grips so I could get enough leverage (because of the odd angle) to turn the screw driver. I dont know anything about the MOMO wheel but putting my wheel ( another Porsche wheel) back on was just a reverse of taking off the old one. You will probably have to go to Porsche dealer to have your computer reset (cost about $ 50) or you airbag light will stay on. I do also remember unhooking the battery before I started. good luck. To remove the existing wheel takes no more than 5-10 mins. I did this twice and saw my mechanic do it twice, never did we disconnect the battery, and the airbag of course did not deploy.

Exclamation

It turns out that (in Canada at least), it is illegal to remove AirBag in a street car that was factory-equipped with one, so my question becomes a moot point !!!!
