I wonder, if you guys can de-confuse me:
I was under the impression that the only 993 models that were called "4S" were the late ones with the split grill. And I thought that those with the split grill also had a wide body. Now I have some doubts...
Were there also 993 Carrera 4S models with the regular, one-piece grill? Did those have a narrow or a wide body? Or would the ones with the one-piece grill be a Carrera 4 (without the "S")?
Thanks!

OK, so maybe I need to rephrase my question: Did the following all exist, and which attributes did they have:
Carrera 4 (I assume that's 4-wheel drive, narrow body, one-piece grill)
Carrera 4S
Carrera S4
Carrera S
Or maybe you can point me to a site that has the answers already spelled out...

Carrera 4: Narrow body, coupe or cabriolet 95-96, I believe.
Carrera 4S: Wide body coupe. Debuted in 96.
The 2S is widebody, no four-wheel drive.
No S4; that's a 928 term.

some of us call it c2s or carerra 2s, but the correct name is carerra s. these are wide body RWD cars (coupe only) starting mid 97 until prod end in 98. had split body colored grill.
c4 in coupe form only existed in 95 (narrow body AWD) however, you can get c4 cabs in other years.
C4S (exist in coupe form only) has big reds standard (maybe ABD, not sure on this one).
these are some of the bigger differences, there are tons of smaller differences such as the carerra S has "carerra S" on the tach face IF the face is black.... etc etc.
johnt53, "The rest have a body-color grille that is one-piece." i believe that ALL 993 has one piece tail with black grilles on top. carerra S is the ONLY model with split grille that's compleley body colored.

This was really helpful! I was mainly trying to sort out the body styles - I got some models that have the split grill, but it only says they are "911 Carrera". Now I know what these actually are, and can list them correctly in my humble little online store...
Thank you very much!!! I knew I could count on the rennlist!
Happy New Year!

In Europe the Carrera 2/4 remained available until at least MY 1997 next to the S models.
S always means wide body without turbo. 4S and S are quite different though.
Simply spoken and in European terms the Carrera 4S is a "Turbo without a turbo" and turbo wing. That means: all-wheel-drive, turbo body, turbo brakes, turbo suspension, turbo wheels and many goodies standard (a/c, obc, leather, sound, etc.). The rear spoiler is the same than on the Carrera 2/4.
Except for the body the S is Carrera 2 by all means. It is the only non-turbo with a colored and split grill (all turbos have a fixed wing, which doesn't really apply here anyways). There is a special variant in Europe in vesuvio-violet-color with dark grey grill, reaview mirrors and wheels (17 inch).
Hope to have added some confusion... Best regards
Felix
