I am not a fan of the "big Porsches" but the weight has kept reasonably in control with weight saving measures like aluminum, carbon, plastic and magnesium body panels along with lighter Gorilla glass or plastic windows and high strength steels plus more sophisticated finite element analysis for stress and mass distribution during the design phase.Throw in silicon carbide brakes too.

If these materials and concepts were applied to a 993 I bet it would come in some hundreds of pounds lighter than it did originally. But Porsche decided it was more marketable to build a bigger car instead.

Looking at the size relationship to the trucks and other cars on the road our little 993 has, I can see why Porsche went the way they did. Sad.
