A little trick you may want to use when putting new dust boots in is to utilize hairspray. Get a q-tip and put a small amount of hairspray around the edges of the dust boot. It will pop right in!

So I assume these are indeed Turbo calipers, and I don't believe they have been painted before.

Looking at the condition of the calipers, I will only change the inner-seals and dust-covers, the pistons look fine.

Thanks for all the comments and advice

The faces of those front caliper pistons look hammered to me and will not apply even pressure to the backs of the brake pads without needlessly distorting the internal piston seals...

Admittedly, the business portion of the pistons is the O.D. for hydraulic sealing purposes, but under optimal conditions, the faces should be perpendicular to the OD of the pistons.

...I'd replace the front pistons.

Hi, Thanks, I thought hairspray would be sticky? I would normally use ATE brake grease..? thanks for the tips or clarifying!

We recommend (and send out) StopTech Pressure Seal Lubricant for reassembling the caliper. Do NOT use brake fluid or the Pressure Seal Lubricant on the dust boots though. I would also Highly recommend not using Brake Grease on the dust boots are anywhere near them! (that is designed for a floating caliper NOT a fixed caliper) As for the hairspray, I'm trying to remember who initially show us this trick with regards to the dust boots, but I do know it saved my thumbs after countless rebuilds.

Great project and learning experiment!

Hi, as usual it took a little longer......

Here some pics from the pistons.... some small blemishes on the tops (when you feel you can hardly notice). Cylinder walls look great, as do the bottoms. Appreciate any comment, thanks

ps, bought a set of seals and boots from Ohio Performance solutions, great service and communication, help in shipping to EU. Thanks Steph, will update how the rebuild goes!

When bleeding the calipers at installation be sure to tap the calipers to shake loose any air bells sticking to the inside of the caliper castings. This can save you a redo.

Looks great.

How do you know when the seals need to be replaced? Or is it good preventative measure to do when you repaint the calipers?

Am I the only one who’d like to see the car they’re going to be attached to?

They look very good.
