Default OT Water leak in Pasaat

My brother's pasaat leaks water into driver footwell after exposure to rain. Does anybody have any idea why this is happening and yes he does remeber to close the sunroof. Any help would be appreciated especially from my brother with the soggy feet!
The car is a 1992 vrx.

Could be that the sunroof drain(S) are clogged. A wild guess.....

Try this forum for VW's. Seem to be a pretty cool site. I have been lurking on the Touareg board just listening...

Merry Christmas!

open the sunroof and blow compressed air through the drains .
open the bonnet and check for build-up of leaves/mud etc. in the scuttle , while you're there check for broken/missing grommets in the bulkhead .

windsheild hasn't been replaced lately ???

Although not a Passat, my A6 had a similar problem and it turned out to be the following according to the Audi tech:

"Checked evaporator drain connector. Found heat shield in engine compartment not allowing drain to open. Repositioned and tested OK."

Problem solved.

Check some of the visible gromet in the engine bay. I had an A4 that the hood cable grommet was not seated and allowed water to leak into the rear driver side foot area.
