Question Polished or Chromed Tips

Which is more likely to retain its look &/or which one is easier to restore?

I would go for the polished stock tips...

Kristoffer,

With chrome, is there a chance the finish could flake off?

I'm partial to the polished look. Maybe it has to do with the connotations of the two words, chrome being more discoey, polished being more racey. Not trying to disparage those with chrome wheels or accents; just my taste.

Are you going to Sebring this Feb?

If you can wait until after Sebring, I might have a carbon fiber/carbon ceramic tailpipe.

Didn't your MOM ever teach you that it wasn't nice to tease???

Mark:

I don't know yet! I'm trying to find a nice way to break it to my wife that I'll be spending V-Day @ Sebring!!

Kristoffer,

If you want to go and do the DE (not sure if you're club racing), you better register soon since there are only a total of 60(?) spots.

Anyway, hope to see you there!

I'm not teasing. And by Sebring I meant the ALMS race in March as the plan is to test these pipes in at least the practice and qualifying sessions. And, indeed, if, as expected, they work, this will be much lighter and, dare I say, sexier, than a chromed or a polished pipe.

Robert, are you having these made for you? And, if they work, can others get some? Where?

They are being made by one of my affiliates as test units. Within the next 90 days they will be tested on on street Porsches and on GT3 RSR race cars. Should they work, they could be available to a broader audience.

P.S. We are also testing carbon fiber/carbon ceramic mufflers.

My Mille Miglia mufflers were polished and the finish is hard to maintain. They dulled quickly and needed a lot of attention to look good. On the other hand, my dad has had chrome tips on his 996 for about 2 years and the finish is just now starting to look a little more dull from neglect.
