The ball joint is a royal PITA. Unscrew it completely from the lower part, force the ball into the socket, and then with the ball already in place, screw it back into the lower part.

Thanks Mike for that amazing picture! Looks quite impressive. I'm going to leave this one up to my local wrench to install. I have a pretty bad back and can see this causing me alot of difficulty, particularly if it's not a breeze to install, which it doesn't look like it is. In time, I will definitely get these pedals! It's just not an urgent priority right now due to the time of year.
Dan: That link does work now fine. I don't see the R and R alum pedals on that website but I'll delve furthur into it.
993chaz: I just decided on a Canon Powershot A80 digital camera ($400 plus the goodies to go with it) as my Hanukkah present, so I can't get that aluminum shifter and emerg brake just now!
Happy New Year,
Steve

Thanks, Mark. Penn Camera didn't have it in stock, so they ordered it for me. Then, I go onto the internet tonight and see it for about $50 less on buydig.com, OR the same price plus $5 more but with a 128 card, carrying case and lens cleaning kit. I'm a little reluctant to buy it off the internet as if something goes wrong... it's nice to just bring it in to my local store. For $100 extra, Pen Camera will cover it for 4 years - even if I drop it! Is this worth it? My wife thinks it is. I'm not sure. I have a used Nikon I bought from them 6 years ago for $500 that they were going to give me $75 for (chicken feed, but I'll never use it again anyway!), so I was going to use that to basically pay for this 4 year warranty. Yes? No?
Also, I was STILL thinking of cancelling the order for the Canon A80 and looking at getting the TINY 4.0 megapixel Canon Powershot S400 as it could fit into my pocket better - but they are about $50 MORE than the A80! http://www.powershot.com/powershot2/s400/
Can't wait to take some NEW pics of... the 993, what else!
Thanks in advance,
Steve

More like a cold tub! Naw - just an empty deck that's highly underutilized.
By the way, this is the end result of what you sold me 10 months ago... the chrome tips. Best bargain so far, for my car! Hope you are well.

Only when it rains! It's just those big pebbles like you'd find on Second Beach in Washinton State, under the deck.
Be glad you don't live here on the east coast, as driving a 993 in the winter isn't real great for the paint!

Steve,
I bought an Olympus Stylus film camera, my first point-and-shoot, from Penn a few years ago and also purchased some sort of extra warranty from them. If your warranty covers dropping, I would definitely get it since digital cameras can be especially fragile.
When I was shopping for a home theater amp, I found some great deals online but soon realized that these gray market items did not have a US warranty. I passed on them and gave my business to a local store for the extra service you mentioned. Many pros in DC go to Penn for their supplies and equipment.
You're right about the A80 being a tad bulky. I guess you have to give up something to cram all of those cool features in it.
If you think you'll never use your old Nikon, you may as well sell it. Personally, I like the idea of having a film camera around since I still do actually use film.
Have fun with your new present! Try adjusting the camera and shoot some black and white pics. From what I saw on Christmas Eve, they looked quite nice.

As a thought for a pedals, the attached might be interesting -- real carbon fiber with a bonded titanium insert.

As to the brake pedal, however, given the potential forces upon it, the carbon fiber approach might yield a pedal that is rather large for strength. As an alternative, a titanium pedal and pedal arm might be appropriate:

Thanks Mark - I'm STILL torn between the Canon Powershot A80 and the S400 (that tiny little Elph!). Decisions, decision.... I love some of the features on the A80 so I'll probably get that, even though it kind of defeats the purpose of having a tiny, light little camera for the pocket, which I what I thought I wanted!
And with your vote of confidence, I WILL get the camera from Penn Camera, and maybe go to Comp USA for the extra's like 128 card, carrying case, etc.
Can't wait to try to get some new pics of the 993. It's been a year since I took my original shots, and I'm loaded with new ideas. Plus, I'm looking forward to post a pic of my solution to the CEL problem. My problem is GONE
. Pics to come
)
I've been driving the 993 every single day it's not raining or snowing - all winter. I just adore this little car. The heat gets going so fast, it's totally amazing. The whole heating and cooling system blows away my old 88.
See you at the Leap Year Meet and Drive. I NEED a good, long, out of town drive.
and to hook up with some compadres.
