Question Which Silver is Metallic?

All,

Ive read the thread history etc, and I have come to no conclusion. Is Polar silver or Arctic Silver Metallic on 993's... or are both? Which
is the higher priced option on 97-98 993's?

Thanks,

Kuhl <img src="confused.gif" border="0">

both are metalic, difference is that one has a blue-ish hue to it. don't know about pricing though.

I've also heard that one also makes your car faster, but I've also heard the same about black <img src="graemlins/burnout.gif" border="0" alt="[burnout]" />

Any silver is metallic.

That is what silver is... Metallic.

I think Polar was the costly option. Artic was "standardized" if I recall correctly.

Michael B is right.

Polar Silver, the blueish hued silver was the standard silver from the 964 era through the '96 993.

As a metalic paint, there was an upcharge of roughly $1000.

In '97, Arctic Silver - more gray in hue -- became the standard silver. Polar was still available, but as a (roughly) $3000 option. I know a certain '97 Garage Queen that looks great with Blue interior, blue top and that added expense, blueish-tinted metallic silver paint.

If you want to know the exact costs, I can look them up tonight.

Arctic Silver, is listed on my window sticker as "Arctic Silver Metallic" with a $1036 charge (U.S).

It's amazing that you pay over 70K for a car, and Porsche can charge you extra for "silver" paint.

As stated, the Polar Silver was quite a bit more costly.

It's a well known fact that Arctic Silver adds 15HP. Add a front strut brace, and normally aspirated Arctic Silver cars will produce well over 300HP...

The painted coloured wheel crests are good for another 12HP (3HP per wheel).
