Default First Oil Change... Blew a Motor Mount - My First Mod

I love changing a car's oil. Just like I love waxing my cars. Weird, I know. But it makes me happy.

Anyway, the first thing I do when getting a new used car is to change the oil. My new to me '95 993 got its first oil change today. As I raised the rear of the car using the engine jacking point I noted a black fluid dripping from right rear. A little investigation showed that the motor mount failed. Not a bad thing considering it's over 23 years old. After using the search function, I am going to install the RS motor mounts. I have had the 993 for less than three days and I have my first mod!!

Also, I forgot how much work it is to change the oil on a 993. A labor of love and I enjoyed minute of it.

Damn, it is nice to be back.

Yes, it’s a labor of love! My recent 993 purchase last winter immediately went on the lift after arriving, and sat there for 3 months while I tinkered around with various maintenance and upgrades. One of which was RS motor mounts. I highly recommend them.
Btw, nice garage!

Part of the fun owning a 993 right? Another option on motor mounts would be WEVOs. Either one you go with, RS or or WEVOs, you may feel a positive improvement in the 1-2 shift. My 1-2 shift could be a bit balky. I figured part of the issue could be that the less body rigidity of the cab could be causing some driveline slop. Once I replaced the motor mounts and after that added the FD SSK/Goldenrod, the 1-2 shift has smoothed out and the entire driveline just feels more solid.

Exactly! This is one of the reasons I leaned towards an older Porsche for the fun of mods and repairs. I put Wevos on my turbo. After spend a lot of time reading posting on motor mounts I think the RS mounts will do fine.

Yeah, the garage is another labor of love. Here is a photo of it just after I re-waxed the floor. It is due for a stripping and waxing.

Chuck, I did you check the condition of the transmission mount? Three key points holding up the engine are the two engine mounts & trans mount.

Even though the 993 is ridiculous to change oil on, I too enjoy the task. As you found, it's also a good thing, as you sometimes find shortcomings.

Wow I wish I had a man cave like that!

I just did the RS motor mounts and FD SSK/Goldenrod updates. Completely changed the feel of the car to better!
