Post Top Speed You Ever Run Your 993

Hello all,

Two months ago I've been driving my car on I-80 in Nevada. It was Sunday evening. There were no cars on the road except me...at least I couldn't see any. The road was smooth and very straight. So I decided to check how fast I could go..well..When I've got to the point when it seemed to be "really fast" I briefly took a look at the speedometer..and if I am right it was 168-170 m/h. But I couldn't hold my eyes on the speedometer for too long because I was afraid to loose the road.
After I've got home and talked to some friends mentioning that speed they didn't believe. After a while...after seeing their facial expressions full of doubts I started to think I was wrong with the numbers I saw on speedometer...
The car was : 1995/993..all stock..except FabSpeed SuperCups exhausts (which I guess gives a bit extra HPs)
It would be interesting to see what others "achievements" are...

Porsche says the '95 993 should top out at 168 mph. So far, I've "only" been up to 128 in my 993 (by the way I calibrated my speedo and it's exactly accurate, which surprised me). I've reached 135 in my '81 SC.

How did your car feel at top speed?

First day I picked up my C4 from Springfield IL., I did 150 to 155 for about 15 minutes in OK. in that "Toll Freeway" IN RAIN !!!
I was playing with an NSX with TX. tag and he was a little "shy" about driving that fast at 7 o'clock at NIGHT...
"PORSCHE" there IS no substitute !!!

145 at Poconos raceway coming down the front straight. Funny how you almost get used to the speed at these DE events - didn't seem so fast, I think because my concentration level was very high since I would be in big trouble should something happen at that speed.

I peak at 140 at the end of the front straightaway at my local DE track.

I've never tried to remotely approach those speeds on the freeway.

Back in 1997, I rented a 993 (Carrera 2S Tip) from Avis in Germany and did an indicated 260kph on the Autobahn (161 mph). At that speed, I literally had to steer it down the very straight Autobahn. Very very scary.

Up to about 145ish mph, however, it was marvelously stable.

Cheers!

Exclamation

Edited so no one will think I am any nuttier than I actually am!

No, it was not a pic from a dyno, or a pic from the car up on jack stands. Its the real deal. The speed reading may be a bit generous tho'...

145mph indicated on the back straight at Mid-Ohio,
after the kink. Throw the anchors out (pagid orange) at the 200' marker cone, into third gear for Madness!

Memories, it sucks that the DE season is over and winter is coming.

Yeh..the reason I've got to 170m/h was a result of competition I had with BMW 7-th MSport edition at that Nevada evening...BMW initialized the acceleration..it accelerated to about 140 m/h...then it seemed to me it riched its top speed...it is when I decided not to stop accelerating...BMW got lost somewhere behind of course... But strangely it wasn't too scary. Porsche was very stable...no shaking..nothing...and after I hit 130-140 m/h I didn't feel any difference in speed...just speedometer arrow rotated clockwise...I haven't kept that speed for a long..may be for three minutes...it was my first day of owning the car...
Starngely I met that BMW in 8 4-5 hours when I already riched California...the guy tried to make another racing with me..but by that time I was exasted by long run (from Denver to SF without landing)...so i was quite this time...kept speed limit.

Shame on you Kevin

My best (worst) effort was 145 on I-20. Got goaded into it (stupid) by a FW bubba. Car was remarkable at that speed - especially when a Tahoe pulled into my lane going about 70 mph. Talk about closing speed! Clamped on the brakes just below ABS and hauled it down with 10-15 ft to spare.

Word to the wise - keep these speeds to the track or empty road. The p-car can take it but you simple can't account for what other drivers will do. It's not worth a life.

Regards,

Ben

Cool

As you all know these cars are way to fun to drive fast.Previous to acquiring my 97 993TT my record speed was 160 mph in my BMW M5.This record was tested the first day the P-car arrived.I was returning from Las vegas to Vista,Ca. and had the great oppurtunity of blowing the doors off a Bmw M3.He stayed in it up to about 140 and I kept my foot in it up to approx.160 mph.I had to back off as I was approaching traffic fast but the TT had all kinds of more speed.I am anxious for the next oppurtunity to see if that 196 mph is achievable.
