Default Factory Motorsound anyone?

For those who might want to upgrade their 993 with a factory motorosound airbox and chrome exhaust tips to match, there is a factory kit available on ebay for $299 (I have no afiflition with this auction, I just saw it while browsing and thought people here might be inteested). The airbox even has the chrome ring around the intake area.

Unfortunately those are not the tips (large ovals) that come with the motorsound package. I had the motorsound airbox on my C4S and removed it after approx. one week. It's pretty annoying to say the least.

I think the C2/C4S motorsound tips are different that the narrow bodied 993 motorsound tips in the 97/98 years. The tips shown in that auction look just like my 993 motorsound tips from the factory. So this must be a 993 non-S motorsound package. The airbox is probably the same.

Curious - when you removed your motorosound airbox - did the car run that much quieter? I personally like the growl and RPM sound during engine RPM increases that the motorosound gives the car.

Yes, these ARE the M159 *chromed* tips. The factory stainless steel oval tips were a separate option X54 or part of the aluminum & chrome package Y29.

The M159 tips were the same design for all years and body styles. However, there were two versions to fit the narrow body and the wide body respectively.

Just as a clarification, the factory Motorsound option included different mufflers, as well as the airbox cover & tips. FWIW, many here w/o Motorsound have chosen to drill their covers to increase the induction noise/music.

True, specific to M159 mufflers were installed on North American bound cars only. However, dealers did sell an aftermarket *motor sound* package (part # 000.044.200.00) which only included the cover and the tips. This kit was mainly created for the ROW markets. This is why there is so much confusion with the M159 option.

Yes, the car ran much quieter. I had ordered the motorsound set ( oval tips & airbox) without knowing how loud it would be. It was fun to drive the car with the motorsound airbox in the city but on the Autobahn it was just too noisy.

Well, only the seller knows if they are the wide body version or not. However, assuming the "for sale" items are those pictured, IOW that is not just a generic pic, those tips have a straight pipe out back. This leads me to believe they are the narrow body version.
