I think this looks like a great car and it is an early '95 which I think is a good thing (not everyone agrees). It does have some nice options, some factory, some added.

It is Midnight Blue and Porsche used a white primer under the color coat which when chipped shows a lot of white spots. Too bad the previous owner did not document the paint work with before and after shots. It is a good looking driver not collector quality so you can drive it and not feel like you are losing money.

My guess is the dealer will not go below $49,900 but I could be wrong.

They should fix the oil leak - my guess is they do not want to. If that is true, then offer them $48,500 and walk away - see if they call you back.

Good luck!

gotta love it when the dealer doesn't show the engine.
I don't like the gray interior but do like the black dash.
If they are calling you offer 40k, let them call back or call them back as you can always go up. I would have a body shop check the car and put a paint meter on it and have compression test and full ppi. What are the tires like? when was clutch changed? how is supsension? all of these areas can cost lots of $ so you need to know these questions before determining price. Also any service history? if not you will have trouble selling down the road? what does the carfax look like? the dealer has it btw.
be careful and don't let your emotions take over as many have done that and regretted large repair bills. have they at least changed the oil and brake fluid? what are the disks and pads like btw?

Key question is where the oil leak is coming from. Valve covers are a piece of cake. Chain box covers aren't a piece of cake but not too bad. Rear main seal, you gotta pull the motor.

1 to 2 drips per week for a car thats been sitting for a while with who knows what oil in it is imho no big deal at all for an air cooler. unless you are a hyper **** type, or its something simple like valve cover gaskets, i wouldnt even bother fixing it.

Price is high and they sound desparate. thought you were doing a 7tt?

There's another thread somewhere iirc about this car. Someone I believe did an on-site inspection and may have test-driven it. I think their conclusion was that the car should be priced in the high $40's.

Yes - there is another thread - and it's by the same OP!? adcampo - you got a lot of answers & advice on this question a month ago - why start a new thread with the same questions?

Yep, I’m the OP. I appreciate all the past and recent input. It’s been very valuable in determining how I’m going to move forward on this car.

Thanks all.

Take it to a nearby air-cooled specialist for a PPI. If it checks out, offer them $45k. Settle at no more than $47k and buy it - or forget about it. (Dealer is probably watching this thread and laughing...)

[QUOTE=Turbodan;14610160].In addition to what was said by all and Turbodan I fully concurr that I would have a body shop check the car and put a paint meter on it
If that Passes then have compression test and full ppi. By an Independant Specialist

What are the tires like? when was clutch changed?
how is suspension? Car appears as original struts due to the Buick ride height although it is on an angle?
So Full PPI YES after Paint Meter by a professional.

be careful and don't let your emotions take over (QUOTE]

The ad states owned by a Local.
Can you do a search at dmv and go and talk to the former owner?

There are changes to the car > Mods like red calipers.
There is the S front bumper cover.
There are Clear sides.
What else did he change?Why?

Also, there are Aluminum Gauges Hi Fi stereo >All of these are Factory 9981 Upgrades
Get the original Build Sheet info and then look at the changes

Does the car have 220 / 224 ?
Looks like a car that should have LSD !
Then talk to the owner
Ypou are buying an owner as well.
What does the seller have to hide?
Be patient, do your homework and cool if and when you negotiate.

So I’ve been working with the sales manager. I shared my concerns and told him I’d make an offer on the car based on the outcome of a PPI. Unless the PPI was clean, I’d offer mid to upper forties. He said he wouldn’t take less thank $51k because he’s getting a “lot of calls” on the car.

Keep in mind the car has been on his lot for 60+ days.

I told him I’m passing.

We’ll see if he calls me back before the end of the month.
