No actually.

The 993 takes some time/effort/money when you buy it to get it sorted out -- they are often the victim of deferred maintenance.

Once you get it sorted it, it's a rock solid driver with fairly low unpredictable costs.

The amount of time you spend in the garage is optional - and determined by how far you slide down the slippery slope of modifications.

I don't mind tinkering with a car. I enjoy it and it keeps me interested. Plus, it keeps my "man card" up to date. However, I don't want to pay a premium for it. I'll see how long the car sits on the lot and maybe go back at it. I'm sure a PPI will give me some indication of what has/needs to be done and where the leaks are.

My main concern is paying $55-$60k and then have a engine out service done shortly thereafter. I'm fine with the minor repairs/maintenance I can do myself. My wife would lose it if my "new car" needs $10k worth of service after just buying it.

Don't expect a 20 yr old car's purchase price to be price of admission. It doesn't work this way. You have the wrong budget or outlook or looking at the wrong line of cars.

Theyll all have a quibble or two that you’ll have to accept, because they’re used cars. But otherwise you should be right.

There are a couple of great cars at hi-tec auto in San Rafael CA at the moment. They know there stuff and are straight down the line. Either of the 993s they have now seem like a better buy.
