Post Considering a 993: Some basic PPI Questions

Currently I have an '86 Carrera, but I've always wanted a 993, particurly a C4S. However, I'll probably end up getting a '95 993 so I can keep the Carrera.

When I bought my Carrera five years ago, I did get a PPI before buying it. The PO wasn't too thrilled about letting me do it, but he actually gave me the keys so I could take it in. I don't know if that was standard procedure (if there is such a thing relative to a PPI), but I'd like to know from all of you if there are any common ways to get a PPI done between the buyer & seller. For example, who really should take the car into a shop for a PPI - buyer or seller?

Next Question: Can a PPI be done on a car that's being sold at a dealer? Although I prefer to buy from a private party, I've actually seen a few very nice 993s at some of the local dealers here in SoCal.

Anyway, I look foward to your responses and I can't wait to join the 993 fraternity.

Thanks in advance.

I selected a shop to perform the PPI and asked the PO on my C4S to take the car there for me (I was a 6 hour drive away). He happily complied. As long as you pick a reasonably close shop the seller shouldn't have a problem.

I PPI'ed 2 cars before that (1 dealer and 1 private seller) and both willingly complied. For the kind of money we're talking I would be leery of a reluctant seller. The fact that you are willing to spend $200+ on a PPI shows that you are serious. That should be good enough for them to help the transaction move along.

i took my 993 to a shop that were about 15 miles from the dealer. A guy from the dealer drove the car with me to the PPI shop. Dealer did not have any problem.
