Default 993NB Best 18" track wheels/ set up?

I'm looking to purchase 18" wheels to replace my 17" wheels on my 993nb track car. I'm looking for the best preforming, durable and best looking wheels (not including tires) under $5k. I currently run Hoosier R7 225/45/17 front and 275/40/17 Rear. After extensive research on this site I plan to run Hoosier R7 245/40/18 front and 285/30/18 rear on 8.5" front wheels and 10" rear wheels. This car has JIC Magic Cross Coil Over Suspension, Adjustable Camber Plates and Brembo Big Red Brakes with Girodisc front rotors.

My questions are:
1. What are my best wheel options?
2. Is there anything I'm going to have to do to make this set up work on my car?
3. What are the ideal wheel off sets front and back and will this require spacers?
4. For appearance I would like a nice lip on the back wheels, does that effect performance or the set up?

Thanks for the help!

The very best? BBS E88, no contest.
The best compromise? My02s.

I recently bought a set of Enkei NT03+M from tire rack and I like them a lot. They look good, are light and were only about $1k for all 4. I'm running 235/265 RE71r tires and they rock!

The new-tech cast wheels are pretty impressive. They are close to forged weight and strength for 1/3 the price.

I bought a set of ENKEI NT03+M in 18", the fronts fit fine, the rears did not fit with their 60mm off set, 65mm would have been better. This is the off set on the MY 2002 996 wheels, just sold a straight and true set for $800. My car was at RS ride height. I have only seen one (1) set of ENKEI NT03+M wheels at the rack, mine...and they didn't work for me.

Default Have to agree on the compromise in 18"

The MY 2002 996 wheels are hard to beat. Made by BBS, strong and light, 8" front and 10" rear, with the correct 5? mm ET in front and the 65mm ET in the rear. You don't need a 8 1/2 " front to run 245 fronts, but you should have them for 255 fronts.

You can get them for $800 to $1,200 a set. You need to inspect the wheels, sans tires to look for welds/repairs. If they have been repaired, run! You also need to have the wheels spun up to be certain they are straight and true.

My preference in 3 piece wheels is Fikse Mach V...get my wheels from Wheel Enhancement in LA: They have everything including excellent service and pricing.

Thanks for all of the info. I have read that the 245's will work on the 8" but the 8.5" would be a better fit. If you were buying new Fikse or BBS wheels would you prefer 8.5" up front or does it matter?

I'd recommend
8.5 ET54-57 245/35 x18
10 ET65 285/30 x18

no spacers

I like Forgelines but there are other good wheels too.

just a few notes on the above
It's tight on both ends
the front will rub the inner wall on tight turns like in a parking lot but it's not an issue, the lower the ET the less room at the lip

the back has even less wiggle room, some guys have fit 10.5ET58 but I don't see how
here's some measurements
10ET65 w/ 285/30 x18 MPSC
front space =79.78mm lips need to be rolled particularly on the drivers side
back space = 209.78mm this has very little clearance inside particularly on the passenger side
10.5ET65 w/ 285/30 x18 MPSC
will spread the section width ~2.5mm more in and out, if the ET is 58 the whole tire moves 7mm more out. When you start w/ minimal clearance you now have less.

you want a shorter tire w/ matching OD, like 245/35 & 285/30, in front & back for more room and for abs compliance

In what way did they not fit? What was your ride height and tire choice?

I'm at RS+10 and running 265s, with plenty of room. I believe RE71r tends to run narrow so that's probably helping me along with the fact that I'm not that low. I'll be running 275 when I buy my next set.

Thanks Bill, lots of great knowledge! After ruling out the BBS E85 for cost I got impatient and ordered the following before reading you message.

Fikse Profil 10
8.5x18" E51 Front
10'x18" E57 Rear
Hoosier R7 245x35x18 F & 285x30x18 R

What are your thoughts on this set up? This car does not have ABS and is strictly a track car and was PCA raced by previous owners.

Fikse also has a good wheel, One of the big advantages of Forgeline is custom ET plus their service is outstanding.

8.5x18" E51 Front - this will be a really tight fir in front at the lips, you may be forced to use a narrower tire as a result. I used 9ET50 x18 for a while but couldn't fit more than a 225 tire

same situation in back, it's gonna be very tight at the lips, you may be forced to limit tire width and or ride height.

These are known 993 n/b fitments, some may have tire ride height restrictions

here's a comparison of my setup w/ your proposed
mine on left no restrictios on ride height, 245/35 front anf 285/30 rear x18 max for tires

PS ignore the scrub radius calcs that's for a different car

Bill,
What size tires did the 993 cup cars use?
I believe the rim sizes are F 18x8.5 et 53 / R 18x10 et 60.
Thanks!

If my calculations are correct. The closest street tire size to the Pirelli Slicks would be
F 245 35 18 = 245/630
R 285 30 18 = 285/630

Does this sound right?

I tried 285 rear on 10" rear and sliced both inside sidewalks. Tires were used but damage free when I started. Rubbing? Old? Cold stored? Who knows. Been running 275 since to be safe.
