2020 NEXT GENERATION 992 SPY PICS & RELEASE
#1591
I been saying for at least 6 months now, more like a year, ever since I saw the first spy shots in which this was OBVIOUS to me, that they are 21" wheels in back. Its the reason for the oddball looking mismatched wheels on all the mules. Having proven its worth on the GT cars its the logical next step. And like I said, it was OBVIOUS you could see the things are fricken huge, every single photo. But no. Can't be. Until finally there's a close-up of a tire with 21 on it. And now its like some big discovery. RL. Gotta love it.

The bigger problem is you can't get a good selection of tires and wheels that fit both brakes and RAS - the consequence is they are literally tire limited. The benefit of the wheel parallel extended contact patch is all for nought.

I was hoping that the 20/21" wheel mismatch front to back are just something they are putting on the mule to throw off the look of the car. Hoping they stick with 20" all around. What would be the performance advantage of a 21" wheel ?

Yep thats what you get with a 325 width tire and 21" wheel and its possible to pull 1.5 to 1.6G (lateral and lineal) on MPSC2 - you do not want too much deformation on the sidewall during high speed cornering (snap break of grip and potentially rolled side wall).

I hope they offer a third-world special option with smaller wheels for San Fran and other areas where 30 profile on a heavily loaded rear wheel is a recipe for a 5-hour+ wait for Porsche roadside assistance to get to you through traffic (based on real-life experience)

Of course they could just run a taller sidewall on a 20. Cup cars do the same. Square wheel diameter, rolling diameter staggered by sidewall height.

Right. Except that RAS is a completely separate subject. There's a YouTube video somewhere with AP talking about all the cool tech they put into the RS and details all the advantages of the larger wheel.
A larger wheel increases the tire patch. I believe AP said something like 18%. Without increasing tire width. Which translates to greater stability and better wet performance.
