My Honest Verdict: From 911 Base to 911 Targa 4 GTS
Hi everyone,
I wanted to share my personal opinion and humble verdict after selling my 2025 Porsche 911 base with Sport Chrono and now owning a 2026 Porsche 911 Targa 4 GTS.
First, let me admit something:
I am not a long-time Porsche owner. My Porsche journey started only recently. I bought my first 911 in January 2025 and drove it until March 2025, when I sold it to upgrade.
Before Porsche, I came from the BMW M world, my last car being a BMW M3 Competition with 510 hp.
From BMW M to my first Porsche
When I sold my M3 and bought the 911 base, my first week was full of mixed emotions.
The BMW M3 felt:
louder
more playful
more dramatic on corners
But the 911 had something very special.
The rear-engine character, the shape, and the heritage made it feel more prestigious and unique.
The more I drove it, the more I realized something important:
The 911 makes you feel incredibly confident when accelerating hard or attacking corners. The balance and stability are simply amazing.
Very quickly I concluded something I didn’t expect:
I loved the 911 more than my M3.
That was the moment my Porsche obsession truly started.
Selling the base 911 and looking for the next step
After selling the car in March 2025, I started researching the next move within the 911 lineup.
Ideally, my plan was:
1️⃣ 911 Carrera S
2️⃣ 911 GTS (RWD)
3️⃣ Targa as last option
Why was the Targa my last option?
Because I had never owned a convertible or open-roof car before. I always thought:
open roofs may age faster
they could be noisier
and I preferred the purity of a coupe
Unfortunately, the dealer told me something disappointing:
There were no Carrera S or RWD GTS cars available, and new orders could take until November 2026 in my region.
What was available immediately?
Targa 4 GTS
911 T manual
The big decision
I had doubts
The Targa meant several things I originally didn’t want:
heavier body
all-wheel drive
open roof
completely new hybrid technology
But eventually I decided to take the leap.
And honestly…
I’m glad I did.
My impressions after the first weeks
Here is my honest experience so far
1️⃣ Pure fun
The car is simply addictive to drive. Every trip feels special.
2️⃣ The open-sky experience
The Targa roof completely changed my opinion about open-top cars.
Driving with the roof open feels like you own two different 911s:
one refined coupe
one emotional open-air sports car
3️⃣ The hybrid system
I was worried about the hybrid technology.
But the reality is impressive.
The electric turbo eliminates lag almost completely. The car feels instant and explosive when accelerating.
Compared with my base 911, the GTS feels dramatically quicker and sometimes even a little scary fast.
4️⃣ Stability and confidence
The chassis feels more planted and more stable, especially during aggressive driving.
Cornering feels faster and more confident than the base Carrera.
5️⃣ Road presence
The Targa attracts a lot of attention, especially with the roof open.
People seem to notice it much more than the base 911.
6️⃣ Sound and character
Another surprise for me:
The engine sound is better than the base 911, and most importantly you can clearly hear the turbo singing under acceleration.
Final thoughts
When I first considered the Targa, it was actually my last choice.
Now, after driving it, I realize something ironic:
It might actually be the most special 911 I’ve owned so far.
The combination of:
classic Targa design
open-air driving
hybrid turbo performance
and the unique 911 driving feel
creates something really unique.
For anyone wondering whether upgrading from a base 911 to a Targa 4 GTS is worth it…
From my experience so far:
Absolutely yes.

It is full of multiple, repeated blank lines after each line of text.
It takes thirteen scrolls just to get to the bottom!
Did you write it in MS Word and paste it into the web site?
If you are inclined, you can edit your original post and remove the blank lines.
I briefly owned a 992.2 C2 Cab before my current 992.2 Targa 4 GTS.
I really like how the Targa can be either a coupe or convertible depending on your driving desires.
I enjoyed my C2 Cab but didn’t like the smaller rear window one gets with a Cab. I think the glass Targa rear window gives me more rear visibility than a coupe!
It might just be the result of AI translation. For example, I also write my replies in my native language first and then have them translated by an LLM. Porsche China has also suspended sales of the 2026 Targa 4GTS and Turbo models for unknown reasons.

Great post. Very true to my experience with both the new GTS and the Targa
I've had two Carerra S, and now a 2026 GTS and I agree with your post. The powertrain is spectacular. The Targa is a tempting ride; I'd be interested in one very much.
