I don't honestly like the way all those car brands that used to be driver luxury cars became like Tesla and MacBook Pro. I prefer simplicity, good old days, that's why I chose the Porsche 911 until they screwed it up as well.

Nice dash, I still would never buy a Ferrari EV because of it. Not that they will have trouble selling them of course.

His take on combining tactical, analog feel and placement is pretty cool. Just the shifting **** vs the 992’s shavers nub….

I would not be too sure about that. EV sales have not been good with top end brands

That’s happening anyway. Which is another thing about the price increase on this car - what am I getting for it? What additional content? Better dash? Seats? More standard features? Nothing.

I know it's easy to get sentimental about old stuff, but I'd argue that the 911 is still pretty good compared to its competition.

While some will bemoan the digital tach, the main instrument cluster is simple, focused, and can be configured for the most essential driver information. The center screen in the 911 mostly auxiliary for modern features like Apple CarPlay, and can be configured to turn off at the push of a button (diamond).

I think the 911 interior deserves a material quality glow-up, but that will be harder to accomplish going forward.

@jdhiro I agree that tech moves on...and I love that... but Jony's take/approach on how to incorporate tech making it useful is pretty cool IMO. I find that the explanation the presenter uses that manufacturers have tried to make cars like phones and forgot their purpose was spot on for me. Visually using different panes of glass to add depth and elements for tactile/texture would be nice. Just explaining that they thought ahead to make certain surfaces to be touched without fingerprints.

@nyca Agree, I don't think VW's implementation of the glass cockpit is a leap above the 992's. It's like manufacturers saw Tesla (IMO in the low of a digital dash implenettion) and ran out saying "we need to do that". I get the sharing amongst platforms but they were sacrificing the aesthetics of the car and "kind of" a betrayal to the enthusiast.

I thought the 958.2 interior was hard to navigate at first...then the 991 found me fumbling....in the 992 if it weren't for "Hey Porsche" the AC would still be on. Yes, before anybody says it, I was on bus with an unusually short wheelbase.

Oh yes, to be clear, I love Jony's design. I actually think that dashboard approach would fit better in a 911 than a Ferrari. Ferrari has been going down the path of making weird alien jet fighters, and I feel their buyers might want something a bit more extreme feeling. On the flip side, I think this really clean back-to-the-basics design here could fit well with the heritage Porsche promotes so much for the 911.
