Default Steering Column

Went for one year free oil change that wound up costing 1k for fluid flush alignment etc - drove out of the service bay at the steering column would not move- up down/back or front. Went back in they decided it must have occurred when they flashed the computer for the oil change. Seems I now need a warranty replacement of my entire steering column. Im told that will take a while - Im guessing Ill be in my brand new macan loaner for awhile

Flashed the computer for the oil change”??? Resetting a service interval shouldn’t have caused that.

Very true.

When I went in for my 1 yr warranty oil change a couple of months ago there was a computer reflash required for the PCM (recall WSB0). If the OP had that done, maybe he got confused and thought it was associated with his oil service or they didn't explain it to him properly. FWIW, the light that comes on to indicate the car is too close to an external object was flashing after the reprogramming on my car. It cleared itself after a couple of restarts. Unfortunately, these computer resets sometimes do cause unintended glitches.

service manager said they look for codes and flash before resetting- they didnt think it would do that but they spent quite some time trying to diagnose the issue and find a reason-- itll be an expensive warranty repair- some guy behind me came in in a new weissach- it had a black interior I told them they could use his in my car as it looked like he didnt drive much n winter

Did they really say “flash” after looking for codes or “resetting” all codes? If a software flash caused that weird glitch…my first action would be to flash again…maybe I am just a tinkerer but obviously it’s not the steering column hardware but a SW glitch if it was indeed caused by the flash. In this case, replacing hardware is waste of money and time.

They tried that in terms of ref flashing. I suspect I’m in for a long wait it’s drivable and I want my car back so I think I’m gonna exchange the loaner back till the parts come

I’m also gonna say that I’m a little underwhelmed by the macan though, itdoes come standard with quite a bit of technology.

This same thing happened to me when I had my 21CS. The dealership told me they couldn’t figure it out with no codes thrown and said they would replace the steering column. They ordered the parts. My column was stuck in an up position. I took the car out for a short neighborhood drive a week after seeing the dealer just for tires, battery etc. and all of a sudden everything worked perfectly. I immediately turned off comfort access and never had another problem. I called the dealer and they canceled the parts order. Who knows what happened!

I’ve had weird software changes after service. Often times just have to go back into PCM yourself and turn comfort entry back on.

Default Stuck up or down steering column

This is a not an unusual problem… My 2020 carrera has done this twice once after being at the dealer for a windshield repair. It is Out of warranty and the dealer would not accept responsibility. BUT, after much short presses on the up down button and some pulling/ pushing hard up and down, it decided to re engage and now works fine. It did not re engage while pulling or pushing. It just finally did after a couple of days of intermittently trying.

Kind of makes me glad my car has an old fashioned, reliable, manual steering column adjustment.

Yeah...

Due to the chip shortage, Porsche built my car without the automatic steering wheel adjustment.
I often lament not having it in winter, when I wear a heavy coat and need to tweak the position of the steering wheel to get it just right.

Hearing this story, may be I should be grateful for the chip shortage?-- Less electronic stuff to fail.

Same here. On mine I set it where I wanted it on the day I picked it up and I have not moved it since. Don't have any cold weather clothing here in Florida to wear so I'm sure that helps.
