Default 992.1 vs 992.2?

OK...the 992.2's have been out for a while now. Overall, what's the verdict - 992.1 > 992.2 or 992.1 < 992.2? Why?

992.2, because that's the one that I could buy new when I entered the market for another 911.

The start button vs. fake key dongle is a non-issue for me. The 992.1's analog tach and popping exhaust are nice and so are the turbo, HP and brake upgrades on the 992.2. The ability to tune the 992.1 more easily is a plus, although I'm more than satisfied with the performance of the stock engine.

None of those things differentiate the two models in a major way for me. The are both exceptional and I'd be happy with either. It all comes down to what I wrote in the first line.

I'm my opinion, 992.1 hands down. Only for the 7MT available in all versions, which now only comes in the T (6MT). I'm fighting manuals to the day I die though. Sure, I'd like the power generated by the hybrid-GTS, which I can get with a small tune...and still keep my manual.

in 992.2's defense, all my cars since 2006 except the Boxster have had push buttons - how anyone considers this an issue is beyond me. And my wife's Genesis has a full digital setup - complete non issue as well.

This is 100% only about the manual.

992.1 because maybe I am biased but I certainly don't want a start push button and full digital odometer that feels like an electric car. Also, I prefer the rear end of the 992.1 especially the tail lights and the light bar. Only thing nice about the 992.2 is the front bumper and that is it.

992.1-based solely on the cost. Would rather have a .1 for xx thousand less than a .2

That’s my take too. I just bought a used 2024 C4S instead of a new one because I wanted 4WD and I don’t do automatics. If I didn’t need 4WD I probably would have gone with a .2 T though as I can take or leave the extra power and am also not too bothered by the digital dash and start button (although I do prefer the analog tach of the .1 but I wouldn’t base any decision on that).

I’m giving the edge to the 992.1. Better aesthetics, the key and the tach are part of that along with the wheel choices. The lack of the rear steering is a plus for me. 7 speed or 6 speed, toss up. Ability to tune advantage .1.

992.1 for me as well. Design language of the .2 isn’t bad but the mandatory nannies, digital screen, button, and 4 cats + OPF really detract from what would be an epic car. 992.1 seems peak to me.

.1 for all that is listed above AND an unlocked ECU. Nice to be able to tune without pulling the ECU amongst other things.

Ive turned down several .2 opportunities. These are big items to overcome from folks that have lived with the .1.

What big items? Analog Tach and push button?

Used to be air cooled, then Mezger, hydraulic steering, NA engines, etc…

The straws keep getting smaller.

If PVD, well not many go down that route.

It’s the ADAS mainly that drives me bonkers. I have the digital screen on the TGT and truth be told it’s not horrendous. But the ADAS stuff is such a turnoff. Mars was able to code out the awful LKA on my TGT luckily otherwise I was actually ready to sell that one back to the dealership over it. Having Sport chrono and mode dial helps with start stop but now the new ones you have to switch off 3-4 items just to get out of the driveway. The button honestly is not a deal killer but it is dumb on their part. I’m still on up to bat for the 80s heritage at my dealer and I will take it but I’m not beating down their door for a .2 and for sure won’t get rid of my .1 for one.

as proven by this thread, there is no general verdict
any little annoyances or improvements people point out are dwarfed by bigger factors like availability, your own preferences of color and options, trim, etc
