Night vision appreciation
Wow night vision saved me from a deer last night. Didn’t know it stays on automatically. All I saw was collision imminent and saw the deer on the screen via night vision.
at first I didn’t know what night vision was for but now I get it. Would definitely spec it in the future.

Glad it helped! I've seen deer bolt out from behind houses. Had I been a few seconds further down the road it would have been a catastrophic event. I believe deer simply decide to bolt without looking. In other words, they are likely to not understand the situation like you or I, which is to first look and access the situation. They just run.
If it saves me just once it's will have been worth the price of admission.
It does run all the time. Would be nice it it gave a warning when something is just in the side of the road in addition to in the path of travel though.

@dudeoverthere it does work well for anything in the gutter such as a person. Had it come on for a person walking
Had a similar experience the other night: was dusk and there were a few deer that were very hard to see standing on side of road - brown dirt, weeds & trees behind them.
Alert went off; I slowed and looked carefully and although hard to see, finally spotted them and allowed - was a great heads up.
We live on very rural single lane mtn road and the deer wander out in front of the cars routinely - perhaps because not too many cars & low speeds.

It does occasionally give a collision warning from car exhausts.
I've fiddled with the settings. Maybe I'm missing one.
The Night Vision sensor is mounted low at about 12 inches from the road. On flat streets it's not a problem. With hill crests and deep ditches in the country, you may see the deer before NV does. It has a algorithm that identifies pedestrians differently than big four-leggers. If the NV only detects the deer's head, I'm not sure it registers. Still, it's saved me a numer of times from the rats-with-hoofs, so I miss it driving other cars. I can't find any settings for NV.
Have it in the Cayenne. Helped several times with finding deer this past fall after dark. One time a couple years ago in Florida a person on a bicycle after dark with NO lights appeared suddenly as I was making a left. The car slammed on the brakes and through up a warning at the same time I saw him. It made my reaction happen much quicker. Unfortunately the used Targa I bought doesn’t have it but it’s not driven at night as much as the Cayenne.
Animal warning
The animal warning reacts to dangers from large wildlife, e.g., deer, outside of residential areas. The animal warning is triggered when an animal is standing in the projected lane or dangerously close in the immediate vicinity. In this case, the system issues both a visual and acoustic warning to the driver. In addition, the display highlights the animal in red on the camera image to help the driver locate the danger. In urban areas, the animal warning is automatically deactivated to avoid false warnings, e.g., dogs on a lead.

My "neighborhood" is a rural area with multi-acre lots. It's not even on the Porsche mapping system as Innodrive doesn't work there.
I think nva would be more helpful with a broader angle. Given how deer like to bolt I'd appreciate being able to spot them along the side of the road better and further out.
