Night Vision has saved my butt twice from hitting deer, once in an older Audi and once in my Cayenne, so I consider the $2,500 for it cheap insurance. I've noticed it doesn't work nearly as well in my 911 as my Cayenne, though it appears to be the same system. So my guess is it's just mounted too low on the 911, and their field of view is way too narrow. That said, the night scope does NOT need to be active in your gauges for the warnings to pop, which makes it vastly more useful than if you had to have that screen on. I wish they could mount the system at the top of the windshield for a better field of view.
The night vision is only a little help though, and only from the front direction. I got a reminder that dusk on country backroads is not a great time to be driving, and to stay especially alert then. The first I saw of this deer that T-boned into me was when his antlers smashed my windshield. $35K in damage and my Emira has been in the shop for 4 months. The deer had hell of a headache and road rash on his butt, but he ran off.
I drive around in a busy semi-urban, semi-suburban area so I’m not worried about animals as much as people. I rarely think about the system but it routinely will alert me to people on the side of the road before I noticed them. I’m a tame driver so it’s not like I was going to hit these people but I always opt for more safety systems. So I am glad to have it.
