Default Five years Old Today

Today, Dec 21st, is exactly five years since I bought the 992 Cab S. It was at the start of Covid and I actually got a discount off MSRP on it back then if you can believe it.

It was warm enough outside today to take it to Best Buns Bakery and get Sticky Buns for me and a Croissant for my wife. I COMPLETELY enjoyed driving it early Sunday Morning before the traffic came out. Of all the cars I've owned and driven, this one is still my favorite.Adding the Akrapovic exhaust and weighted Mahogany Shift **** this year, really make a tactile and aural difference in the enjoyment of the car! Sounds trivial, I know....but it's like having a girl with small, flat ***** and then she gets nice *******! Same girl, but better - Aftermarket is just fine.

I have 12,800 miles on this 2021 in five years. Clearly I'm not enjoying it enough.. I'm going to have to pass on a Carrera Targa 4S Allocation I requested, because they are automatics. The 3-pedal is the only way to properly drive a 911. Porsche has made a blunder in limiting manual trans to only two cars, the Carrera T and the GT3. One is underpowered compared to the rest of the 911 line, the other is ridiculously expensive. Maybe they will figure it out ....

It's an odd feeling to actually own a car. you think is perfect for you. There has always been another to aspire to. This one - just the best.

Happy Birthday Car. Five years and we're going to keep going. I still take pictures of it, too

Thank you! I think when you get older (as I am) you realize you are no longer out to impress anyone...and you do things for you.

Sometimes a younger guy will come up to me and say "Nice Porsche, but you should have got a Turbo S" I chuckle and say "Why do I need one of those?". And they say "Its so much faster..." I laugh and say "this one is fast enough" but what I really want to say is "Have you ever done a track day? Most mortals can't drive a 350 hp car at 10/10th's around a race track, the car is too fast. Why do I want 700 hp? That is no longer controllable except by those with professional training and super-quick reflexes." But, why bother? They don't get it.

I am retired and can easily afford a grail car such as a Ferrari as I did well in business and investments, but I don't really want one, nor a "faster" Porsche. The value just isn't there. A GT3 is double or triple the price of my car for what? Another 50 hp and a big wing? Cars and Coffee bragging rights? Not me, I think I like my car even better than when it was brand new, I've bonded with it and know its nuances and its like handmade shoes that are well-broken in. It would take a special car to make me get out of it.....maybe a 992 Speedster with a Manual Transmission when that comes out ....

Congrats! It's great to hear from someone that just loves their car and isn't always on the hunt for the next shiny new toy.

I've felt the same with both my Porsches. My Boxster in 2005 and my Carrera 4 from 2021. Quite honestly both vehicles were/are so absolutely perfect for me that I have no desire for anything else, no matter how "exotic" or "impressive" in comparison. It's a really great feeling and I consider myself very lucky to have my perfect car and enjoy it so much.

Best wishes for a great Christmas to all fellow Rennlisters.

Congrats on the 5 year milestone. Timeless car and beautiful. I tend to keep my P-Cars far longer than the many others I've owned. Cayenne Diesel for over 6 years (until the required reflash turned out awful), 991.2 for 8 years when I fell head over heals for my new 992.2, and our current near 8 year old Macan SE which looks and runs like new. I would guess our '25 Boxster GTS 4.0 will be with us many years. All the other stuff, Jags, Merc, BMWs, Lexus from 18 months to 3 years max.
My son and I took the Boxster out for a 2 hour ride today for coffee and a croissant. Just warm enough for the summer tires not to be dangerous. Gave it a thorough wash and the cover goes on later today. I can't image us being motivated to take a joy ride in anything other than a Porsche. Sadly, this is the condition of my 992, high and dry at a friends business until late March.

Well, you should bring the toy down; life is full of surprises, you should enjoy playing with her once you can.

For all the fuss and hype over the 992.2 T, the 992.1 S manual is (to me) a better car. More power and especially more torque, longer legs on a trip, and lower gearing 1-6. Plus all the options we could choose from. I truly believe down the track they will be sought out in the market, perhaps the manual .1 GTS's as well but they command a decent premium for really not much more.

Your not wrong. I just don't have a winter tire set, but also hate to run around with the roads covered with salt, but that is my own paranoia. The Macan and my daily VW Jetta GLI will have be the sacrificial lambs until late March.
Edit- if we get a winter thaw after a rain I will take her down. I do suspect she'll be in the company of some very high end P-Cars that a local highly regarded indy does not have room for. Will send some pics of her garage mates when they arrive.

Happy birthday to your car!

I'm actually swapping my 5 year old 2020 C2S (PDK - but not by choice!) to a 2024 C4S (manual by choice) tomorrow. The change is for a bunch of reasons and comes with some downsides as mentioned in my thread about it but it's made fairly easy because I never bonded with the car due to the PDK. If Porsche offered the .2 C4S in manual I would have ordered one instead of buying this 4K mile CPO one year old car but they don't so I get the instant gratification of buying an inventory car at my local dealer (8 miles from home and my 6 year old makes me go there at least 1-2x a week which is dangerous!)

You are not wrong on this. Passed a 2026 Carrera2S PDK Coupe last month for this 2022 C2S manual with 3.5 years warranty and 1900 miles. Geyser and Slate/Iceland Green interior.

It’s so nice to read a comment from someone who exhibits gratitude and satisfaction with his car. This forum is full of spoiled children living in bubbles, so thanks for the refreshing words.

2023 manual C2S in agate grey exterior and chalk/ slate interior

Today is my car's birthday-got it Dec. 22, 2022, and she has only 6700 miles. Long live the manual trans.

Happy Birthday to the OP's car, and I really like its color combo.

My 2021 C4S MT won't be 5 until July, but it's also a keeper. A 2% discount was all I could haggle.
Now, the only thing you might be missing is a Numeric Shifter beneath your walnut ****.
