Drive it home or ship it?
I’m flying out this week to look at a 992.1 I have a deposit on. This will be my first Porsche. The car is located in Texas and Georgia is home. My options are:
1) Fly commercial then drive it 15 to 18 hours home 1,000 miles. 15 driving interstate, 18 by state highways.
2) Fly my plane out to look at it then have it shipped.
My concern is being sick of the car after a 15-18 hour drive. That concern is based upon never having owned a sports car, let alone a Porsche, so I may love the drive.
If the money of shipping vs driving were a wash due to loss of time, what would you choose? If driving, Interstate or state highways?

If it were me, I would definitely drive it. You will get to learn it and be comfortable with it by the time you make it to your home.

That's exactly what I did 2 weeks ago. Flew out to CO, cancelled the return flight and drove the car 997.1 TT back 1200 miles. All I remember is getting a ticket 99 in 75 miles, the rest of the drive is all fuzzy--can't recall LOL
Joking aside, this would be the only time you would be driving the car this far, perfect opportunity to get to know the characteristics of the car.

I'm in Ohio and recently flew to Manhattan to pick up my car. I wanted a little sightseeing which we didn't do as we were tired when we got there, but I've been to NY a million times so no big deal. I'd hoped there would be a fancy delivery experience which I also didn't get. Since it was my first Porsche I wanted the dealer expert to go over it with me, which was adequate. I wanted to see all of the fancy brands at the dealer (Bugatti, Rimac, Bentley, Koenigsegg, etc) which I did get and then had a long 10h test drive home. We did the 10h drive home over 2 days, but it was still pretty long. If I had it to do over knowing what I know now about the dealer experience I got, I probably would have shipped it. The cost probably would have been about the same with airfare, hotels, food, etc. I have a local friend that got his car from LA and after looking at the cost of shipping did a PECLA delivery which was about the same price. I am doing a 500mi trip up to Cleveland and back next weekend though. I'm looking forward to that one.

Drive it home. I'm from the Sacramento area. Found my CPO C4GTS in Carlsbad thru the Porsche website. Flew to San Diego and ended up buying it. Drove it the 500 miles home. Amazingly got almost 29 MPG.
I bought my 992 in Arizona and had a plan to drive back to Seattle but the state/city tax and registration was a bit more if was to drive it off the dealer lot.
I ended up shipping.
If buying from a personal sale then definately drive. I did that on a 991 from Austin to Seattle and it was a blast.

Drive it home!
I did this from Houston to Sunnyvale, 2100 miles in a 2022 C2S last December. It was a blast!
I had PPF applied to the car and as a result I was not as overly concerned about road nicks. We took our leisurely time and we visited family and sightseeing along the way.

I see the logic of everybody wanting to drive it back ,new car etc.
thing to remember is more risk driving the car 1000 miles on the interstate of something happening to the car than having it shipped.
save the driving miles for fun roads that have more corners than the interstate
