Killing All rattles on a Cabriolet

I have a 2021 Turbo S Cabriolet.

It is a great car, but there were some rattles - mostly pretty quiet rattles to be fair but I have never had a car that rattles and I dont intend to start now - they drive me nuts.

I have been on a rattle crusade.

There are various random threads about the Coupe but the Cab never seems to get a look in for thinks like removing panels or dealing with noises. Maybe you all live in nice sunny places and have the top down - I dont qualify as I live in London.

Below is a series of photos with annotations saying what I did,

I have also completed the Resonix sound proofing per their videos ( using UK materials) with just the wheel wells left to go - I have air filters and plugs on the way and will remove the wheels just the once to do these jobs together.

The side panels at the back are pretty flimsy but there was no point in removing them to sound deaden as there is really no clearance between the panel and the hood mechanism - adding anything would cause mechanical issues.

The best technique to find the rattles was simple to thump bits of the car with the ball of your hand and find each and every rattle that resulted and fix it.

The car is to be frank transformed. I have nil rattles. and the sound deadening in the doors had the unexpected bonus of huge amounts of bass from the Bose system as the energy comes into the cabin as opposed to rattling the doors.

Very helpful, mine is also a member of the UKRCC (UK Rattling Cab Club )
Does yours have Bose, the rear quarter speaker is a know issue and is a culprit on my GTS.
Your post has inspired me to order a few bits of foam and butyl to have a go at mine.
Any details on how to get the rear quarter panels off?
Might have to invest in the Resonix kits, any links?

i do have Bose yes but the rear speakers are fine. I did try to remove the covers and got one half off but the force required to go further was not worth it given there was no noise.

the rear quarter panels. I did not remove them but .....

1. You will need to remove the screws that hold the flat top panel in place ( one of the photos above)

2. Remove the "pin" that the rear seats clip into ( it is a torx 20 I think )

3. The dealer says that the front part of the panel near the door pushes into the car to release the pins on that side.

4. I can see using an inspection camera that the panel clips at the back would require the panel to slide forward to remove

5. I don't know as I have not had the speaker grills off but I would suspect there could well be screws under there that need removing.

I did not remove it as it was clear that there was no space to put any sound deadening in working fouling the roof mechanism.

I just followed the resonix videos and bought U.K. materials do do the work. I can find links if you need them.

the seat belt cap slides forwards. Use a panel pry tool and it will pop off. It is fiddly to put it back on then suddenly it goes on.

This will then expose a screw. T20 torx

The other screw you access by having the roof half open and it is mounted horizontally. Pad the gap with cloths as if you drop the screw you will never get it back

the panel will then lift up ( there is I think one pop pin ) to about 30 degrees.

You can't move that panel further without removing the rear side panel but you can pad it out to stop the rattle.

Maybe it helps to be a bit deaf. I have had my '21 C2Cab (with Bose) since new, and I have never noticed any rattles. Now, I will probably pay attention and be annoyed!

That was the arguement my dealer used.
Mine is a daily and also used on long cruises.
So roof up with out rattles is important to me.

For those in the UK the materials I used were as follows

The cabriolet has no spaces for the rear "stuffing" of voids ( watch the video and you will see what i mean ).

For the cab you can do

1. The door and door cards
2. Under the rear seats
3. The back " wall" behind the rear seats - together with some small exposed areas in the roof hydraulic pump area.
4. The wheel arches

I have not done the arches yet but will next week. The general reports are that the arches have the biggest impact on tyre noise.

The other stuff does reduce noise slightly but also removes rattles and resonances and gives you are massive boost to the stereo bass.

I will look into a lot of this. I can barely drive the car with the top up. Old Toyotas no god damn noise like this car

Thanks for taking the time to document this. The seat belt cap is the only thing that rattles on my 2020 C4S with the top up and it's driving me nuts.
I haven't managed to remove it yet. It's very tight. Where do you insert the trim tool? I assume at the top? Also do you have to remove the thick weather stripping or just make some space to allow you to push?
