Question 3D Printed Mud Guards

Dear All,

I own and operate a 3D printing company and was thinking of just 3D printing some mud gaurds as this seems to be very easy to design and 3D print. I can print with ABS, Carbon Fibre, Polycarbonate, Nylon infused Carbon Fibre and many other materials. I am an official dealer for several brands including Bambu Lab which are probably the best FDM printers out there on the market.

Do you know if the TLG gaurds which are available are made from metal or from plastic?

Would you trust 3D printed mud gaurds on your 992?

I would be able to design this for free as I have in house CAD modellers with me and the printing cost would be essentially next to nothing.

Just wanted to hear your views on this. I'd be more than happy to share the STL/STP file if anyone wants.

Lemme know...

TLG guards are made of plastic.

This sounds interesting. I’d be interested in trying some depending on appearance.

How do you print carbon fiber? We use Bambu Labs printer with carbon infused ABS to print electric conductive plastic parts but how can you print CF and that it looks like CF (weave etc)? What am I missing?

Btw, I don't see any issue with printing the mud flaps - would not even want them in anything else but plastics.

The key design element to the TLG flap are the tabs that slide into the gaps between the quarter panel and the wheel arch liner. These tabs "self align" the flap and hold it in place in preparation for the screws. Without those tabs, you have to blindly hold the flap flush against the wheel well and drill/screw them in. The bottom line is, if you can't design your flap and include these tabs, don't bother (IMHO).

We print with carbon fiber infused with PA6 or PA12 which is a type of Nylon. You will not be able to get the normal look of carbon fiber that you commonly see. However, with Statasys machines like the Polyjet J850 you can get the effect of the weave but these machines cost like half a million dollars or something.

I think it will be an easy process. Once my car comes in a few weeks we will start the prototyping phase. It isn't rocket science.

Thanks!

I'm particularly interested in a guard that complements the GT3 side skirts, which are quite popular around here. The TGL design is appealing with its flaps, but the rounded bottom could use some refinement for a more cohesive look with the side skirts.
