Meanwhile a Geo Prism with no exhaust or cat is allowed to operate freely.

Amazing how the EPA prioritizes. A relatively minute # of guys tinkering with an incredibly small percentage of vehicles on the road but a great big f'kn deal for the EPA pencil necks who despise performance cars. These Cal Berkley weasels would have us all riding bicycles or driving EVs that almost nobody wants to work if they could get away with it.

It’s Berkeley not Berkley and as a Cal grad I take mild offense at your comment; it’s Bears, not weasels. What’s your beef with the number #1 rated public university in the country anyway?

Sorry if you were offended. As a "Bay Area" guy I am sure you would also be offended by my pronouns.

I wrote that I was “mildly offended” with a emoji…it was a joke. Maybe you could lighten up a little. BTW, I couldn’t care less about your pronouns and the only thing that I am “sure” about is that I don’t make assumptions about other people just based on where they live.

Some of us like to breathe clean air. I'm sorry if that infringes on your "freedom" to be an *******.

I can see that you’re having comprehension difficulties so I’ll explain it to you.
You referenced the Cal weasels.
Cal’s mascot is the Golden Bears.
That’s it; that was the extent of my being “mildly offended”.
It was a joke. You missed it. Maybe next time.

Oh yeah, a handfull of guys making some calibration changes most of which are CARB compliant is not going to tarnish your air my friend. Interesting that you are calling someone an ******* when you obviously have no clue. Unbelievable.

FWIW the Feds also went after the diesel guys who were selling devices making it easier to do the ‘rolling coal’ thing which was a much more blatant offense.

You've laid out some pretty strong clues you're an *******. Helen Keller could have solved that mystery.

A few highlights from the reddit thread on this subject:
  • This has been in the works for a looong time. Cobb "voluntarily" made updates to its software platforms in April 2022 to generally comply with environmental regulations
  • Cobb still does tunes (obviously), but essentially won't support products sold with the "not for road use" asterisk loophole that various companies use to sell products that aren't EPA-legal.
  • Cobb also won't allow their software to mask a CEL caused by emissions equipment issues.
None of this is a huge deal. It makes me a little sad as someone who sprung for a (high flow) catted set of downpipes largely for my aural pleasure that my experience will be no different than someone who went full *******-mode, but I'd much rather the world be habitable in a few hundred years. If that's the penalty I have to pay... it's not the end of the world.
