Default Is This Your PPF in Twenty Years?

I recently went to a car meet and off to the side was parked an older BMW with very faded headlights. I also noticed that it had a "clear bra" applied to the front of the car. This is how it looked:

PPF - another stupid invention pushed by the internet geniuses. It's a car. It's got paint on it. Drive it. Small things happen. Ignore it or fix it. But it's still a car. Meant to be driven.
Rant off.

That covered section of paint is going to appear different when this damaged/weathered film is removed.

People always say modern ppf is different from 20 years ago but none of the modern ppf is 20 years old yet.

That is what the PPF looks like when it past its life.

PPF does not last forever and your mileage varied depending on whether the car always get exposed to the sun.

if you neglect the PPF then it will dry rot and will be very hard and time consuming to remove.

no different than a neglected/baked/trashed clear coat

ps: prior to self-healing PPF material exist, you should maintain PPF just like your paint. Polish it wax it. But do not polish your self-healing PPF as you dont want remove the “self healing top coat” on the film.

Based on this, should PPF be removed/replaced in 5-7 years?

I'm wondering what this person gained by having PPF in the first place.
Would the car look better or worse today if there had been no PPF?
I say better.

I'm not convinced that the underlying paint will survive intact from the PPF removal.

At the minimum, it should be inspected in 5-7 years. There's no set expiration date because it depends on the environmental conditions in which it's been exposed to which varies for different people in different regions.

without the PPF, you are guaranteed to end up with peppered hood on that area underneath the PPF (from rock chips).

I’ve removed PPF on my old 987S after i wasn’t able to find someone to do it.

i parked my car in the Summer Sun and peeled it slowly. The glue comes off with Goof-off.

On a white car it didn’t discolor any. It in-fact saved my bumper from a Lot of damage
