One of the new upgrades on the 992.2 is the headlights. We have primarily focused on the HD-Matrix LED Main Headlights and haven't discussed the standard ones because we hadn't seen them in pictures yet. Recently, Autogespot posted a 992.2 Cartagena Yellow GTS with the standard headlights. I'd like to know your thoughts on these. Would you choose the new HD-Matrix LED headlights or stick with the standard ones?

Below are the specifications for the standard headlights:

• Camera-based headlights
• 11 stripes LED Matrix (vertical) for individual dimming of segments to hide vehicles ahead and oncoming traffic
• Additional high beam
• Segment-specific dimming of reflective traffic signs
• Specific headlight function on highways, higher range of visibility on highways by raising the light cone.
• Dynamic automatic leveling of the headlights: compensation of different loading conditions and dynamic chassis movement (braking and acceleration)
• Coming home / leaving home: Adjustable time of headlight activation at opening or closing of the car
• 4-spot daylight: still active (dimmed) with active headlights at darkness.

 

I added both lights for a closer comparison, I couldn't find a better picture for the Standard Matrix.

 

I think the base matrix led look awesome. I wish there is a clearer picture of them.

 

It would be so much easier if they could just listen to Jakob Dylan and go with ....

 

I feel like the “standard” lights really soften the front end and that’s why I decided to go with them this time. The fact this time we are even debating which we like best may be a testament to how nice looking the base ones are this time.

 

One of the problems I think is that if you configure a targa or a cab, you can open and close the roof in the configurator to see how it looks. When you change the lights, there is no option to see the lights on, off, drl, etc.

Yeah I swapped between the 2D model view and 3D model view to see the difference. 2D is DRLS and 3D has full light mode.

 

Those results are pretty close, it almost a 50/50 split, we need more votes to determine the clear winner.

 

Is this the first time the base headlights are matrix units? Previously, I believe this feature was only for upgraded one. Am I correct?

I really do like the standard headlights. I like the simple look. My GT3 now has the Matrix headlights and its ehh. I guess bc I never bring the car out @ night. When I do go to order the 992.2 GT3 I will “ probably” stick w/ the standard headlights and save the $2100 option. I say that now but we will see haha.

I too like the standard headlight signature. Candidly I had beyond maxed out my budget on my build so I would have added the height lift before I would have upgraded to HD Matrix. They remind me of (please don't freak out) the Ford Puma lights in Europe. I always thought they looked cool but 992.2 owners may not like that over there for obvious reasons. We don't have the Puma in the US so it's a non-issue and here they really look like nothing else on the road, I think. Counting the days for mine. Waiting in Emden since the middle of last week.

 

Yes I agree. Personally I think these fill the headlights much cleaner than the matrix — — . W/ technology how it is nowadays these standard headlights Im sure are fantastic. Please post pics when you guys start receiving your 992.2’s. Much appreciated.
