Default Porsche 994 Speculation

Given that all has been revealed about the 992.2, I figured that it's time to get the speculation going on what the 994 will bring. These are my predictions for the next generation of the 911.
  • Double-wishbone front suspension for all 911 trims.
  • New platform architecture that is designed to support hybrid, and pure EV drivetrains.
  • To offset the weight of those powertrains, the new platform will be substantially lighter -- the hybrid will weigh less than the 992, EV version will come in at well under 4000 pounds.
  • Hybrid version will be capable of EV only mode for short distances/city driving. The hybrid 911 becomes a PHEV with a bigger battery.
  • No back seats for the 994. The space will be used for batteries.
  • The pure EV version won't be making an appearance until the 994.2 -- just in time for the 2035 target set by many countries.
  • EV 911s will have an evolution of the Porsche Sport Sound from the Taycan. Also, don't be surprised if Porsche includes things like fake gears, etc like the Hyundai Ioniq 5N -- IMHO, that car will be the most influential EV sports car of all time.
  • The digital dash will grow to be the full width of the dash to be a flat dash throwback to the old cars. The 911 gets a passenger display in the process.
  • GT cars will go hybrid for the 994 and the EV GT3 will be too quick for enthusiasts to ignore.
  • If a 3 pedal "manual transmission" is available, it will be simulated, ie not physically connected to the transmission.
This is NOT my wish list. It's just speculation where Porsche is taking us.

Base 911 will start at $200k and weigh 3,800lbs with no rear seats. Fun times ahead.

994.1 Porsche introduces the Hyrogen/EV model, giving a middle finger to gas and electric.

I think safety and autonomy will become synonyms, and opting to manually "drive" the car will be equivalent to the Autopia ride at Disneyland.

That being said, a simulated manual transmission experience would probably help the medicine go down.

  • ADM will be $25k for Carrera, $50k for GTS, $100k+ for GT models
  • Cars will have noise limiters that make it sound like a sad Camry
  • All digital instrument cluster across the dash
  • Digital gear selector (bye bye Braun)
  • Wait will be over 2 years once order is confirmed
  • AWD will be standard
  • Manuals will be eliminated
  • Car drives itself
  • Seats are couch-like a la Wall-e
  • Options will be 2-5x in price than what they are now

Koenigsegg does a simulated manual transmission...

The EV Ioniq 5N simulates a DCT...
https://www.motortrend.com/reviews/2...-track-review/

I think that it's quite likely that this is where Porsche is going as well.

If you somehow missed the Vision 74, it's going to production, purportedly in 2026.

No pure EV until the 998, if even then. I think it will simply be an improved 992.2 - lighter battery, weight trimming, minor styling changes. The 994 will, if the EV mandates remain, be the last 911 of its kind - sales will be phenomenal for the entire model run because it could really be the end.

I am not sure if I love that or hate it.

If you can get past the fact it's a Hyundai, it's an incredible concept and refreshing to see a manufacturer truly thinking 'outside of the box' in sportscar engineering.

You may well be right. I will collect the fragments of my exploded head and try to digest the concept as applied to the 911. But for today, I will remain mind-blown by the suggestion.

Much too low. The way inflation is going, those amounts won't move the needle for said models by then.
