How hard is it to get a Targa?
I have a Turbo s now and I am looking for a targa. How hard is it to get one? I am on the east coast and I know some dealers don’t like to ship out of there area.

I see them available to buy around here in new england, but I hear getting an allocation is tough. I have a family member who got a targa gts last year and told me they waited over a year to be able to place the order.

I would go to your dealer and tell him you want one. You already have a Turbo S so you have history and also if you wanna trade it in, they would love some additional business. there are a lot of tire kickers at Porsche dealers today and very few who actually cough up the money to buy. you are one of the real buyers, and that will be ur biggest advantage.

You have a desirable trade, which helps. I would ask around, letting them know you’re serious. I was getting my wife’s A6 serviced last summer and walked across the parking lot to the P dealer I had never bought a card from. I had a low mileage nicely optioned ‘22 MT C4S cab to trade. I got a call the end of November saying they had received a bonus Targa 4S allocation and that no one above me on “the list” had made an offer they would accept. It took about 10 days of back and forth but I picked it up this Tuesday.
For comparison, the two other dealers I had ordered a total of 7 cars from in the last few years said:
#1. 18 months to 2 years.
#2. We stopped taking names for the wait list on Targas.
So, it depends I guess.

Here you go - 2 new and 13 pre-owned listed:
https://finder.porsche.com/us/en-US/...&order=closest
There is a good chance the 2 new ones are actually ordered cars not delivered yet and are not available. You can also try BAT.

I didn't realize how lucky I got. I was negotiating my Audi RS5 trade in value for a 2024 coupe, when the salesman beside mine said his customer was trading in his 23 GTS Targa as his new Turbo S had arrived. I took one look and immediately changed to the Targa. Obviously cost a fair bit more, but super happy with the car. I don't envy you guys that place your order and then have to wait for the build.

Minutiae on 2019 Targa 4S
Newby question(s), what is the numerical designation on a Targe 4S? or where do I find the entire breakdown on the numericals :?? 992,, etc. ?
More specifically I'm looking at a 2019, 3.0L and the dealer lists it as Twin Turbo, 420 HP, @ 6500 and Torque 368 @1700. Their disclaimer states "info may be incomplete"
Seems odd that a Twin Turbo is 3.0 when there are 3.8L Targas?

It's a 3.0L twin turbo, but not refered to as a "Turbo" model.
Porsche now uses the name "Turbo" to designate it's the highest HP model in the line, thus the Taycan Turbo, which has no turbos...
So yes the 3.0 had turbos, but it's not a Turbo...
A proper 991 or 992 Turbo has a 3.8L engine, which is different from the 3.0L 991.2 and 992.1 engines.
There are no Turbo Targas in 991 or 992. So there are no 3.8L Targas. There's rumors that a member of the Porsche family did have a 991.1 Turbo Targa made, as a one off. That was never an actual model offered by Porsche.
Lastly there were 991.1 Targas, from 2014-2016. Those are natural aspirated engines. 3.4 in the Targa 4 and 3.8 in the Targa 4S.
