I never downshift to 1st when slowing to a stop. I stay in second and when I reach 5mph or so, I just feather the shifter into neutral without clutching. Been doing that for almost 40 yrs.

The way the 992 shifting works is actually quite interesting.. I do think if you are having grinding or difficulty shifting, it could be a problem, and likely needs a potential tweak to fix.
