Update. They have offered me a "long block" reman from Germany. I understand that is the block and heads. This was after dealer determined the valves had hit the piston tops on that one side. Engine comes out, all the externals removed and PDK separated, new long block, externals back on, transmission back on, back up in car. No additional warranty.

As I left the dealer, I was pleased to hear they were not going to repair the motor, but would replace. But, the more I think about this, it is just a huge hit to my "confidence" in the car. I ordered this car and waited a long to time to receive it. Just what I wanted the way I wanted it. Intend to never sell. (Still have my 1999 Boxster) But the above described process makes me think there is no way that it goes back 100%. And if I have any problems, it will be on me. There is wide agreement that no one at the dealership has heard of this on a 992 S.

I know there will be a big financial hit. There is already a big "love of car" emotional hit. I can't shake the nagging thought that I am the one who "holds the bag" on this. Porsche offering nothing to extend warranty or compensate.

Still considering what to do. Evidently this could take month(s) to sort out.

It's a routine, predictable engine swap in a mechanical system, not emergency triage / surgery at a battlefield med station with improvised tools performed by a field medic.

Your car will be fine and you get a new engine to boot. Sounds like they are doing what's needed. I'd be more concerned about possibly having to go easy on the engine for the first few hundred miles than about the longevity of the car.

It's a car. If I had a dollar for each engine R&R I've done in my life, if have a lot of dollars, and in no case did it harm the cars in any way. It's routine for anyone with experience; basically color by numbers.

I'm happy you're getting the new engine. I hope you can see the positive side and not let this ruin your love for the car...

Good luck with whatever you decide.

I wouldn’t be too concerned about them, labeling it as a remanufactured engine.
from what I understand, they only save the main castings, the engine block, and the cylinderheads.,, and replace all the-internals.
so theoretically, it should be as good as a new engine, although in a perfect world, I would rather have A new engine.
I wouldn’t let it be a dealbreaker, if you like the car.

If you are considering keeping the car push for an extended warranty and tell them they need to keep any mention of the extensive engine work out of the Porsche maintenance records or carfax otherwise you will take a big hit on resale.

Even with it being a long block your now relying on the tech to swap and seal everything properly, I would really push hard for a extended warranty

Yes... I agree. I am figuring out how many connections and systems there are around the "long block" reman.... and it is a ton.

Did anyone get the Porsche Vehicle Service Protection Powertrain Plan (10Yr on PowerTrain) on their car and how much was it?

Thanks for all the input everyone!
