Porsche doing GIAC tunes now

Same discussion, same concerns, same questions, same answers in here. https://rennlist.com/forums/992/1401...ealership.html
Just replace M-Engineering with GIAC.
This is not Porsche offering a third party aftermarket tune, it's a specific Porsche dealer selling it. Big difference. To my knowledge, Manthey Racing is the only third party aftermarket performance company that Porsche officially currently offers.

Yep, and it’s theoretically better to tune when the engine and components are fresh.
I suspect people are worried the engine will fail in a way that is unrelated to the tune but that Porsche will still pin it on the tune. This is the only logic I can think of to explain waiting until after the warranty.
I guess people aren’t always logical.

Yes, that’s the big counterpoint to “it doesn’t matter”. If there is a non-tune related failure that would have happened anyway and would have been covered by warranty but then isn’t covered because of the tune. Anyone saying “it doesn’t matter and it’s the same” is not being logical. We can debate the probabilities, but in no case are they “the same”.
I say this as someone who tuned well within warranty period.

You gave a perfectly logical reason and then suggested people aren’t logical?

Do not use facts, actual facts, to get in the way of a good Internet meme.

Who ever is maintaining your vehicle should know it's modified. Modified cars typically have different maintenance requirements than non-modified. General rule of thumb is anything modified for more power should at least be on the "extreme duty"* maintenance schedule. Modified turbo cars should get regular boost leak testing...etc..etc..

Not a meme. Just discussion.
I also tuned my car well before warranty-end. M-Engineering. Product and service top notch.

My dealer offers GIAC tunes for at least as long as I have my 911 now (since 2022). The first thing they offered me together with a soul exhaust and BMC filter package..I think they called it "in and out tune" package. They do it on all 992 variants.

Because component failures typically follow a bathtub curve, failures are more common early in life and then there is a relative period of high reliability before failure rates rise again at the end of useful life. Most people don't want to get caught up in a finger pointing game should a powertrain component fail in a tuned car.

so to put this to bed, I was at the dealer dropping my car off to diagnose the clanking sound (from another thread) so I asked the SA about it. Basically, if something happens Porsche would make a determination of if the tune caused the damage. But of course, we all know how manufacturers are about that, so probably no better than doing a tune on your own. He did mention that it comes with a warranty from Champion, but no idea if those are worth the paper they're printed on.
my apologies for stirring the pot.

Clerical error.
They posted the 991.1 TTS numbers instead of 992. I would expect about 30 more hp/tq on tuned TTS vs TT.
My dealer offer GIAC in 2021...they said warranty is not guaranteed but GIAC is certainly a "safe" tune. Never had an issue.

I find their pricing hilarious.
