GTS to GT3...

GTS to GT3...
I've owned and loved a lot of different cars over the years. BMW (M2, M3, M4), MB AMG C63, a C7 and a C8 Corvette and a 981 GT4. My latest car (until today ) was my 992 GTS. I loved that car and thought it was fantastic and my favourite car to date. I had planned to keep it a long time but over the winter really got the bug to own a GT3. Roll forward to now... GT3 is in the driveway and the GTS is sold. Happy/sad. After spending a lot of time in my new GT3, I thought I would share my thoughts compared to my GTS. Street driving only at this point.
As excited as I was getting the GT3, I was nervous about the ability to daily the car in the summer. I drove my GTS every single day I could last year and wanted to do the same with the GT3 but was worried given some of the comments I read here (and on YouTube) relative to how hard the GT3 is to live with every day. Tram lining, overly harsh ride, LWBS being difficult, too noisy, etc. After spending a LOT of time in the GT3, I'm no longer worried about being able to daily drive the car and, to be honest, I'm not sure I understand some people's view of the car being tough to live with other than as a weekend/track car.

- In sport mode, the ride is only a bit firmer (maybe 10-20%) than the GTS. I like a firmer ride in my sports car and also had the GTS on it's firmest setting. The GT3 is not too firm at all on really bad roads. My city is full of rough roads, pot holes, bumps, etc and the car handles it all really well. Not like my wife's X7 but not a problem at all. Tire pressure was 32/35 and I'm not sure I would need to reduce it to the "comfort" pressure some suggest using. So, this concern isn't a concern.
- The LWBS are fantastic. They are so supportive, comfortable and look amazing! I'm 5'10" and 185 lbs with a very fit build and it works perfectly for me. The only challenge is you need to learn how to get in and out of them and it's not as hard as some suggest. After a couple of times in and out of the seat, it's easy.
- The interior is notably louder than the GTS. Some tire noise but mostly the engine... but how glorious is that noise!! . It is definitely harder to have a phone call or hear the Bose stereo but when you are approaching 9,000 RPM that is the last thing on your mind.
- Some people have commented on the lower torque and the need to wind out the engine. My GTS did have more low end torque but the GT3 is far from lacking torque. I actually find it easier to break the rear tires loose on the GT3 than the GTS and there is always lots of torque on tap. This car is not low on torque.
- The front end of the car is telepathic. The best way I can describe it is that it's incredibly direct and responds immediately. The car turns in FAR better than my GTS did and feels much more planted than the GTS (which is a very planted and fantastic handling car!!). The feedback to your bum and to your hands is significant and you feel every little thing the car is doing. At first this made the car feel nervous to me but once I got use to it, it actually inspired a lot of confidence because the car wasn't ever surprising me... it was telling me everything it was doing so I could manage it better.
- Did I mention the sound? . You can read all of the reviews and watch all of the videos but until you hear the engine for yourself, you don't really appreciate how amazing it sounds. The sound of the engine is a big part of what makes the experience special.
- Brakes are fantastic but so were the brakes on the GTS. A bit disappointed because I have the ceramics and the brake dust was still a thing... I've heard that was an issue with new Porsche ceramics so I might be swapping pads soon. A big part of the value of CCB is better brake dust.

The 4.0 in the 992 (and 991.2) GT3 is one of the great NA engines made, IMO. They are plenty powerful and I've never felt for a lack of torque. Power delivery is different, but the urgency and immediacy of the power delivery as well as the noise are more dramatic than a TTS, at least for me.

I put 8k miles in my gt3 in a single year. It’s hard to avoid taking it out!

I pretty much had all the same feelings and reservations reading all the posts here regarding torque and ride etc. before I got my car but they were all non-issues. I'm convinced people saying it's not possible to daily are expecting S-class or Bentley levels of comfort in this car.
Congrats on a beautiful car, you picked the best colour

Anyone who says the Gt3 doesn't have enough torque in the lower RPM's has never driven one - I was impressed with how flexible it was considering its a 9000rpm screamer - certainly one of the best engines ever IMHO.

BTW is it possible (of course it is but just to be sure) to order a GT3 WITHOUT CLs?

Just went to the configurator, that would be a hard No apparently. That would be my preference if possible.

As a GT3 owner and daily driver, i'm just happy to see someone countering the myth that these cars are impossible to daily.

It seems to me the idea of what is and is not a daily driver is completely dependent on the individual driver and their expectations/preferences. To draw conclusions from another persons perspective is only somewhat meaningful. You need to drive one yourself and then decide.
As for me, if i ever get the allocation I have put in for over 4 years ago, I will convince myself that the GT is an excellent daily driver.
