Default Steering Wheel

I searched the forum but didn’t find the answer to the following question.

What is the difference between the standard steering wheel and the GT Sport steering wheel?

If equipped with Sport Package or Sport Chrono, you still get the dials on the wheel.

Is it just diameter and thickness?

I believe the diameter is the same for both wheels in the 992. However the GT Sport Steering Wheel is thicker. The trim surrounding the floating controls on the spokes is different. On the regular wheel, there is a silver outline, whereas the outline is dark gray on the GT Sport Steering Wheel, and there are decorative bolts at the corners giving a bit of an industrial look.

10 and 2 position is thicker, there are visible fasteners around the outer face, and there is a 12 o clock stripe.

The steering wheel is a stand-alone option. The standard wheel feels quite thin to me compared to other “performance” cars, although some here who had a chance to sample both prefer it to the GT.

I prefer the feel of the standard wheel. The gauges are easier to see and the feel is better, IMO

Porsches traditionally have thinner, harder steering wheels than a lot of other makes. Personally, I like that.

I too stayed with the standard wheel as I have small hands and can see the gauges better with it.

The diameter of the GT wheel is 15 mm smaller than the standard wheel.

I think that is an archived article describing the 991.2 steering wheel.

This appears correct. 10 and 2 thicker, rest the same..which is a little odd, because during track work and spirited driving, isn’t the preferred position 9 and 3?

You are correct. I just measured my 2023 GT wheel and it is 360 mm outside diameter.

Correct, I have both wheels having changed over from standard to GT Sport. The trim is interchangeable as well, as I discovered when it turned out I had to move the wiring loom across from the old wheel to the new one too.

I don't know about you guys but I find the Steering wheels for both girth feels too narrow for me. Are there any good after market steering wheels that works with the heated steering wheel function?

Agreed! I recently ordered a new one from Exclusive Option with the thicker wheel rim option (..an additional $200).

(Here’s an example of the 4mm thicker wheel rim)
