Hey guys, I have a 992 C2S and reading all these tuning results on the forums has made an itch. I mean, 100bhp from a software? How good is that.

My arrangement with the wife has always been, I choose the car, she chooses the colors. This "technically" is the wife's car, "technically" she drives it more than me. I only get to play on the weekends. But she's never gone out of normal mode when alone. So I am wondering.... if I could Stage 1 tune it, get that oomph, but she'll still be in normal mode, so she's none the wiser?

Its not that I cant tell her, but in the back of her mind it'll always be "I dont need that power, its too dangerous, is it safe for the engine etc." I'd rather just skip that. So the question is.....you all think she will notice?

Thought this thread was going to be about hiding a tune from your dealer.

If she’s not getting into boost much, doubt she will notice the extra power. In normal mode this car shifts into 8th gear as fast as it can by 40mph.

I've been married for 30 years. It doesn't bode well for you guys if you're hiding stuff like this.
If she's daily driving a 911, I would not make the assumption that she's driving it around like a Camry. She will notice the increase in power, but it's not like it's 100 more horsepower everywhere in the rev range. It will just feel more stout. It's a tune. It's not a like it's going to transform the car into an unruly beast.

Unless you're drag racing and/or want the additional acceleration feeling, there is no need for a tune on an S. It's plenty fast.

She'll definitely notice when you have an engine issue and the dealership voids your warranty secondary to an aftermarket tune................I've been married over 40 years and honesty is definitely the best policy. I'm guessing your scared she'll "beat you down" with the simple word "why" when you tell her about your plans...... Listen to the wife - having a wife who WANTS to drive a 911 is gold. Don't F@#$ it up!

I really do not think you need a tune but if some thing were to happen to her with the Tune installed you may regret this forever.

here goes the phantom scare tactics of warranty delial stories circa 1992...show us a pattern of posts here of any modern P cars with dealer installed simple ecu tunes where said dealer denied a warranty claim.

You can chose to believe whatever you want, but Porsche can detect tunes if they want to, there are enough reports of this around for you to search and find some. You can ask your dealer what the process is but my SA has told me that for large engine/transmission issues Porsche has requested data downloads from the ECU.

As far as I know, Porsche does not evaluate the ECU for tunes every time a car goes into the dealership for service the way Audi does.

Yeah it’s probably easier to hide a needle in a haystack than to hide a tune from Porsche (the mothership, not the dealer).
