Default Term Protection Plus

Hey folks,

I am wondering if anyone has experience with purchasing or using the Porsche Term Protection Plus plan (limited threads for 992s when searching).

Per the dealer, the TP Plus plan goes till 6 years, 72K miles, and extends the manufacturer warranty until the term date. This plan includes consumables, one time brake/rotor replacement, alignment, etc.

https://www.porsche.com/usa/accessoriesandservices/porschefinancialservices/protectionplan/term/

I’ve seen a lot of extended warranty posts and most revolve around Porsche VSP (Vehicle Service Protection) and comparing that to Fidelity. I’ve also seen posts about comparing costs of DIY vs dealership vs skipping an extended warranty, not looking to rehash these topics. Thanks!

Also interested in this one. How much is the cost of this?

I just got this for my C2S for $3k, including the brake rotor replacement. I plan on driving my car, and the brakes for my 2015 RS5 were almost that much a few years ago, so I figured it was worth the gamble and peace of mind to spring for it at that price.

Definitely ask them to come down on the price when they offer it, since they start pretty high. They knocked off $1,500 from their original price for me, which I’m sure was inflated to begin with.

I just got the car yesterday though, so I can’t speak to actually using the service.

Where is it documented that it extends the manufacturer warranty until the term date?

The link you shared shows it only covers "wearable components" (with an additional paid option to cover rotors), and doesn't mention anything about original mfgr warranty extension.

Just curious, as that's a significant difference in value...

It was 4500 or so for my rs6 and it’s meant to cover brakes and rotors too. That job alone is about $10k so it’s well worth it if you daily your car.

Dealer offered me terms of 72K miles and 6 years at $5,959 and mentioned the MSRP for is ~$6,600.

@freesole @atomicUpdate What were you mileage and year terms?

@null I was trying to find the exact wording about manufacturers warranty as well and was hoping someone here knew. If I were to venture a guess its under this clause "Mechanical breakdown coverage including all mechanical and electrical parts, unless specifically listed as not covered in the Exclusions from Coverage section of the Product Agreement".

But the factory warranty is 4/50, so an extra 2 years and 22k miles for $6k? Frankly that’s madness…(and noting ‘normal’ maintenance for the things you will actually need like fluids/filters/plugs are not covered). What did Barnum say?

@atomicUpdate Thanks! PM sent to get dealer contact info.

@jlegelis Agree with you, hence asking on this thread of what folks have done.
Note that a dealer brake job is $2,500-3,000 which is included in this coverage in addition to the additional 2 years and 22K miles. It definitely doesn't make sense for anyone that stores the car for the winter or only uses it for the weekend. If a car that sees 10-12K miles a year then it may be worth getting (depending on the cost).

Like in gambling, ‘the house always wins’ with ‘extended’ anything. Just say no and self-insure if its important to you (and patronize a skilled independent).
