Paint thickness question, please help!
Hi all, I'm about to purchase a CPO 992. The vehicle has the metal sunroof. I had the SA take paint depth readings and the entire car is within spec 4-5mil but the roof is like 12mil. He says it's because the roof is a different material. Does this make sense? I always heard anything over 7mil is suspect for paintwork.
Any guidance would be greatly appreciated!

He measured a cpo gts and a 991 and both had higher readings as well on the metal sunroof part. But nowhere online do I find concrete evidence that on 992's the metal roof has a higher reading from factory.

So if it's the sheet metal sliding sunroof version...it shouldn't be 12mil? That's what the dealer is telling me, they're saying since the metal sunroof is a different material...the paint is thicker because they apply more primer. The paint is carmine if it makes a difference

lucky for you, i just measured the paint to my carrera coupe with metal sunroof, reading was 9 in some spots, 10-10.5 in most others. we bought the car brand new. 11 basically sounds like what my roof is given margin of error.
if i had to guess, the metal sunroof is painted separately. so if they focus on it individually, maybe chance for more paint?
also - in your case - wouldn't it be odd that the entire car is in spec and just the sunroof is higher? you'd likely see more damage (and higher paint reading) if something had happened.
your paint reading, plus my reading, plus your sales guy's two other readings make it seem like you should be all good. i wouldn't stress about it. how many miles does the car even have?
