Few questions about best practices
Hello all! New (2024) 911 owner here! I would be very grateful if someone who knows can help shed some light on a few questions I have about best practices.
1. On average, It's taking about three minutes for the RPM's to settle down on a cold start, which seems too long. Should I continue to sit there and wait until the RMP's settle down on a cold start for the entire duration or just drive off slowly after about 30-60 seconds regardless of the high RPM's?
2. Someone please tell me there's a way to permanently disable the auto stop/start function. This thing drives me nuts.
3. Peculiar 'crunchy' noise coming from the back right of the car at low speeds. Almost sounds like flexion in the suspension or possibly the exhaust? It Sounds somewhat similar to my 22' Macan GTS which had an issue at about 2000 miles where the subframe bolts needed to be replaced. It's difficult to describe and will probably just have to take it in for a tech to listen to.
Any insight or pro-tips in general would be very helpful. Man I love this car.
Thank you!

1. The owner’s manual says you should drive off immediately at moderate pace. I believe they recommend this for emissions reason as driving accelerates the warming up of the catalytic converters. Every engineering and mechanical fibre in my body tells me it is better to let it warm up a bit before driving off, I usually wait for the cold start sequence to be over, which is about one minute in normal climes on my car (a bit longer in the dead if winter, i.e. -20degC).
2. There isn’t a way to do so on my ‘21 MY.
3. I can’t talk to the specifics of your car as there isn’t sufficient info for me to speculate, but my car does make all kinds of weird noises, which are part of its character.
You’ll enjoy it even more as you own it longer. These are fantastic machines. Congrats and enjoy in good health.

2) Sport mode should be your default. Just spin the drive mode to sport when you start the car. It should be muscle memory. Auto start/stop is disabled in sport.
3) No idea.

1. Drive off. Go easy til you reach a good temp.
2. M tune.
3. Every car is different. Get it checked out.
Congrats on the car. Post some pics.

As others have said, start the car and drive off, taking it easy until the oil temp comes up. Driving off is better than sitting because it heats the engine oil faster, meaning better lubrication performance sooner.
There is no way to have the (unmodified) car default to Start/Stop Off when you first turn it on. Folks that find this annoying will just make switching to Sport mode part of their start up procedure. Or you can program Individual mode to have S/S disabled and switch to that if you prefer.
As for the noise, have the dealer check it.

always take off when after you start the car. do not let your car sit to warm up. i have been told by multiple tech and even porsche ag ... start the car and drive. as other have mentioned, do not go above 4K until your oil and coolant temps are up to normal operating. 194 degrees constant on the coolant and ~ 180-225 degrees on the oil (at least for usa cars).
once the car is up to temp mash the gas as often as possible.
turn dial to sport mode.
all 992s sound like the mothership landing on a cold start. if you had an issue you would throw a code. obviously if you see something leaking that is an issue but absent that and no code the 992s just make some interesting sounds (both inside and out). but get that motor past 4K and you will forget everything else.
enjoy.

FWIW, if you don't want to wake the neighbors in the AM (should that be a concern) the cold start noise can also be disabled via an M-Tune.

on top of the oil viscosity being thicker, the tolerances within the motor are also tighter.
