Wait, what?
Was it not useable at some point?

My Porsche app was not usable in the PCM when using iOS. Today Porsche released an updated and activated its functionality in 992. Gives you both Apple CarPlay and control over some vehicle functions.

Sweet. I believe it's this: https://newsroom.porsche.com/en/2023...lay-33034.html
It wasn't initially available on the 992. Basically the Porsche iOS / Car Play App now has access to vehicle functions. Noticed app updated today, haven't had a chance to try.

Does anyone know if this is PCM6 only? On my phone it says the PCM must be updated, my car has PCM5.

I think that's very misleading from Porsche and it's going to occupy the dealers with calls for the time being. There's allegedly hardware differences, which by itself should not necessarily be an impediment but VW is cheap and sucks in software. Don't hold your breath on a PCM upgrade. I'd love to be proven wrong.
By the way, I have the feature in the cayenne. It's dumb. Essentially what you do with the native car software also done worse with CarPlay. It would be useful if the car didn't have its own software, here it's useless redundancy.

Just had it confirmed, no PCM update available so guess this CarPlay update is PCM6 only.

My 22 Carrera, PCM6, (updated, colored icons) automatically had an OTA update today to provide the use, from within Apple CarPlay, of the My Porsche App. I’m not sure of the virtues of this duplicate functionality, but I do appreciate these OTA software updates. Now, c’mon Porsche, send me an OTA update for my Matrix headlights!

I used it in my 2023 TTS today. For me is basically useless I think its redundant not sure what i would use it for. The My Porsche app on the phone needs to be in the open and running in the background to work.

As I'm unwilling to pay Porsche for the rather (IMHO) useless functions that "My Porsche" provides, an "upgrade' such as this has less than no value for me.

I’m looking forward to trying this tomorrow. Depending on how deeply they integrate with iOS, this could be useful and fun by enabling us to:
1. Use Siri to control car functions, which I much prefer to the built-in and relatively dumb voice assistant
2. Use Apple’s Shortcuts app to “script” car functions that can be triggered via widgets and Siri
I’m hopeful they do it right, but skeptical until I see it…
