Default Is PPL worth the cost and benefit?

I am expecting the delivery of a 992 GTS which I will locate in the mountains of MT.
I have a quote from the dealer for full front and rear quarter panels of $5000.
this seems high but will be XPFL 8 mm and is warranted for ten years.
I have PPL on my ‘15 Cayman GTS that has been good protection but the car is never driven in winter and rarely in rain.
the new car will be driven similarly.
can anyone advise if this is a reasonable quote and if PPL is worth the cost for paint protection?
thanks,

Do you mean PPF? If PPF, I think it is, but some people don't. I get all my car's PPF because I'm OCD with my cars. The typical full PPF in New York costs me about 7k and that includes ceramic coating.

My C2 is the very first and only car with PPF on the front half. I think it is worth it. But, it didn't cost $5k.

I am a firm believer in PPF and have all my Porsches covered. I cannot stand the resulting road rash on the front of an uncovered car. The PPF is less money than a a quality re-paint. Also, I have direct experience where the PPF actually protected me from serious damage when a road cone, kicked up from a car ahead of me, hit my front bumper head-on while on track. The PPF was scarred and damaged and had to be replaced but the bumper stayed completely intact without even a blemish on the paint/clearcoat..

I would PPF the car. If you are really in Montana (and not "locating" the car there for tax purposes) I would find a local installer. The warranty for PPF is generally from the installer (who then gets reimbursed by XPEL for materials), you can't just walk into any XPEL dealer and ask them to fix your PPF.

The price you are quoted is probably in the right ballpark, but if going through the dealer find out who is actually doing the install and check them out....the installer is the key factor in a good PPF job.

Thanks for the reply. I live in Montana but the car is being delivered in Mil Valley, CA.
I will take delivery in CA and leave the car there until the spring.
I think having the dealer install the PPF makes sense to me as I will drive it back to Montana.

Picked this beauty mark up yesterday. Thank god for PPF or there would definitely be a huge gash on my hood

Track pack as they sometimes call it: full front bumper, full hood, full front panels to the doors with full wrap on all panels (no showing seams), strip at top above windshield, both mirrors, and redoing factory clear stoneguards along with full body ceramic and ceramic on all 4 wheels ran me about $4k from a reputable installer that was coordinated by the dealer and paid for through the dealer. I was weary of using the dealer "shop" but it was a third party and I spoke to the installer prior to determining him vs another shop. Since then he has done another vehicle for me independently.

$5k in current market prices doesn't seem too steep compared to what I paid if they are a quality installer and include all the same ceramic. But $4k for just PPF is too much, should be closer to $2,500 or so.

IMO the whole car is overkill but this is entirely subjective. I just did the bumper, front of hood/quarters and stone guard area. Full ceramic tint including my Targa glass and PPF partial areas was only $1200 for me. Ceramic coat was $900. I do have hook ups since I’m a frequent customer.

Tint and PPF before ceramic (I only did 70% tint, as like a non dark look)

After polish and ceramic

My car arrives in port next week. I am having the whole car PPF'd and ceramic coated. I am going to keep the car for a long time. There are valid arguments on both sides.

If the potential of a rock chip lessens the enjoyment of you driving your vehicle, invest in PPF, because it will allow you to enjoy your car.

Ask this question here and you'll get a serious dose of confirmation bias......

Oh yeah, my $4k included tint on all windows. I would not PPF partial hood. That was fine for SUVs, family cars but 1) 911 hood is too low, do the whole thing, 2) and isn't that big, do the whole thing, and 3) you don't want that line across the hood, so do the whole hood.

Choose your installer wisely. If you search the forums you will see multiple examples of knives having cut paint.
When one of my headlights was removed, the paint received a small scratch.
IMO the risk of damage to the car is magnitudes less than the risk of damage to the car from road debris or other light contact.
