"Friends don't let friends drive in Normal" mode. Put it in sport mode...

Yes, this is my interpretation of it as well. I can force my car to make this noise in normal mode, barely pressing the gas at low rpm, on other words forced lugging. I never noticed it until a similar thread started about this around a year ago. I have never encountered the sound during normal everyday driving, because I don’t lug the motor. Most engines will make weird sounds when lugging. 911’s apparently do not like being driven grandma style.

My 992 PDK doesn't make this noise. Any chance you've tested too many times launch control? that may have introduced some play in the gearbox or in the shafts. Is your car AWD by the way?

Using launch control does not "introduce play" in the gearbox. These cars are designed to launch over and over, all day long.

Could the newer 992 have more mechanical noise piped into the interior through the "sound symposer" tubes than in previous model years? There was a post a while back describing how to block the sound symposer tubes to reduce interior noise: https://rennlist.com/forums/992/1166...l#post16841179

I have found this engine to make all sorts of inconsistent sounds. I only am aware of most of them from threads like this one. My reaction is always the same when I hear a new noise, wide open throttle at the first available section of open road. Makes me forget the other sounds.

but are we sure that they are the engine supports? if the noise is made when the gears are shifted at low revs. couldn't it be the pdk change? if they were the engine mounts the noise would be heard even on uneven surfaces without accelerating. but no. you can only hear it when the gear is engaged

I can’t tell what the problematic noise is?

So just an update, yesterday was four weeks in the shop, and the parts are not available and not even being produced for another week so I asked them to put the car back together which I will pick up Monday or Tuesday. When they get the parts I will then consider bringing the car in in the spring and having this addressed. But, I do think that this may be just a character trait or flaw of the car and I may rather live with it then go through a whole bunch of effort with the car out of service. I did raise a case with Porsche Cars North America and I think they will give me some sort of compensation for my troubles.

why would using launch control introduce “some play” in the gearbox?

2022 Base Cab here. I am familiar with the noise but either mine doesn’t make it as often or it doesn’t bother me. I’ll try and pay attention the next time I’m out.

Only 992's I havent heard this sound in is in manual ones.
Makes me think it's some PDK chatter or something.
I never paid attention to it but had a customer mention it in july and suddenly I notice it in every 911 I've driven just because I was made aware of it.

I have a manual and it makes this noise. I usually hear it going up hill at lower rpms. Currently breaking in, so when I shift at 4k rpm, it puts me in the rpm range where I hear the noise. Makes the noise in all modes.
