Sound Package PLUS Demystified | Why The 992 Base Stereo Sucks
#61
I upgraded all my speakers and tweeters with rennspec before they went out of business, hopefully I can still use them with this upgrade.

Bose wasn't available and even if it was, it was now a lower powered version of the 991.2 one, which I had. Burmester is way overpriced, but for me it's the only option since I don't want to mess with aftermarket stuff. I don't think opening up door panels, etc. is a good idea. Plus, I'm not sure about resale, not that this is a priority. I went with Burmester for my GTS. It's very nice, but it really is way overpriced. If I had chosen the base system, I'd be torn right now on what to do, but I think I would just live with it.

For me I'm not big on stereo system so I stayed with the base in the GTS. Theoretically it sucks. Realistically I'm ok with it. But I can see how one who cares about sound would be annoyed by it. It couldn't cost that much more to get it to be better from the factory. I hate this penny pinching corporate mindset that Porsche has. What's next - charge extra to get tires with the car?

You say charge extra for tires but it's one of the most infuriating things about getting a 911. The "Tire Lottery". Literally the most important part of the car, the tires, they leave to a lottery as to what you get. When they upcharge for every little difference I can't believe they randomly throw on tires that are clearly different. I'd gladly pay a little more to ensure Michelin's. Maybe I'm just bitter because I got Goodyear's and they definitely suck.

I typically have hated Goodyears but I found these tires to be not bad. I run them low pressure - 28 front 31 rear. Once they wear out I'll put Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2s.
But back to the radio. It sucks but I don't care. The car is still awesome.

Silly upgrade. I drive my 992 exclusively with the top down and PSE on. There is no way i would be able to hear the difference between a MP3 of 92k/24 flac. Save your money.

You'd be surprised. That's exactly what a good sound system does without distortion or ear fatigue.

Gotcha. I thought you had the base system. I didn't have an option for the Bose since it was not available at the time. I liked my 991.2 Bose but the Burmester really is next level.. I have Focal Aria 936 at home.

Exactly what we have here. A multi-channel DSP Amplifier. Tuned perfectly for the 992 acoustics and the base audio signals.
We have a successful Stage Three system up and running in our development 992 right now. All input correction and output equalization handled inside this one chassis — and it looks pretty good, too. (sounds even better)
I'll have an announcement in the next week with pricing and pre-order info. Looking at Nov/Dec ETA.
Remember, there's no amplifier in this config, so we do have to run power. Luckily, we've figured out a way to get that from the fuse panel in the passenger footwell — no need to run to the battery. This is actually a fairly simple install, just requires a bit of dexterity and patience working in the footwells on this car.
I'm working on an install guide video. That should get compiled and published in the next week or two.
More news soon!
