Default PPF on Dakar with Rothmans Livery

Hi I’m new to the forum. I got a Dakar with the Rothmans livery getting delivered soon. I’m debating whether or not should I ppf the car.

The shop suggested to apply the film (SunTek) over the factory decals, they said they would ‘carefully’ do the parts that are more complex. According to them it should be fine (but I’m a bit sceptical).

They also mentioned that the adhesive Porsche uses in its decals are much stronger than the ppf adhesive, so when it comes to removing the film, it should not damage the decals.

I’m concerned on how it will look with the ppf over the livery. Should I just ppf the high impact areas? Or just let the car develop some ‘character’. I do plan to take the car to some sand dunes, dirt roads, and on ski trips.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how I should approach this?

I thought the Rothmans scheme was painted on rather than decals, I guess I am wrong…

The blue and white are paint, the rest are decals IIRC. I'd say do the bumper covers, hood and hips and let it ride. That's my plan.

If you’re going to use the car like Lumber21, PPF the whole car. At least you have a shot at saving the original paint and decals vs if you raw dog it.

I'd place very little stock in being able to save the decals if PPF removal is necessary. But if you don't PPF the entire car and use it as it's intended, there's a good chance some of the decals will get damaged anyways plus damage to the very expensive two tone paint. I say PPF the whole car and order a spare set of decals to have on hand before it goes out of production then proceed to thrash the car as it was designed for.

get the decals documented and save the CAD of them. should be able to get them recreated by a third party. if the need to be replaced.

Speaking from the experience of removing PPF from a car myself, I would not count on being able to remove PPF without damaging those decals. I had to use a steam generator, and a heat gun to remove the film and goo gone and acetone to remove the left over adhesive.

It’s a very special car…ppf the whole thing and enjoy

when time comes, a skilled installer will be able to remove the ppf safely

there are a few techniques specifically that would make this process more favorable 😉

It’s a Dakar. Putting PPF on a Dakar is antithetical to its being. You might has well make Chuck Norris pierce his ears, wear gaudy gold hoop earrings and put put him in a skirt.

I thought the Rally Design Package came with factory applied full car PPF

See page 21/22 of brochure.

People don’t like to buy six figure, ducked up cars.

I'm not seeing where it says paint protection film is applied. Are you talking about the "foiling work"? I'm pretty sure that's just the application of the livery decals.

My Dakar has arrived and it will have Stek PPF applied over the whole car. Peace of mind trumps having to reapply decals etc if replacing the PPF in the future

I PPF'd over the decals on mine. I used the extra thick XPEL and have zero regrets as ~150 miles in I was already brapping over dirt piles and doing donuts.

Have you guys tried to launch it in the dirt yet??? It's amazing.
