Hi all,

First time Porsche buyer here and have had a 992.1 C4S Cab on order since last August.

Just got an email from the dealership that they had a build slot for later this year available but that it wouldn't be PTS due to low volume of availability. Email was caveated that the 992.2 is due to be released in Jan but that if I were to wait it could be 12 months for another build slot as Porsche will release the S and GTS coupes first.

Would it be sensible to wait for the 992.2 or jump the gun and get driving sooner?

I’m not sure how anyone would know if it’s worth the wait. I ordered my 992.1 last Saturday and if the 992.2 is really worth the upgrade, I’ll have a very nice trade in for one.

personally I’m a fan of the 992.1 except the fascia could look a bit more aggressive. The GT3 look would work for me if they ended up going that route but the car itself is very nice and well done.

I think it would be a surprise if the 992.2 was released in Jan. MY24s are starting to trickle in and they are 992.1s. If anything, I would think the 992.2 will arrive later next year as a MY25.

Personally, I would take what you can get. As you've experienced, allocations aren't easy to come by and nothing is ever promised for tomorrow.

I was in a similar situation and pulled the trigger to get the car sooner. With how crazy the buying experience has been, who knows when you'll actually be able to get a build spot for a .2 car and also who knows what type of ADM or MSRP increase we'll be looking at. I was done waiting.
Other deciding factors for me:
- Don't love the all digital gauges that are coming.... not a deal killer for me but I love the old school tach (flip side: new gauges will likely be visible through the steering wheel)
- judging by spy pics the 992.2 does NOT get rid of the piano black plastic on the center console.... if it did I'd be more tempted to wait.
- I REALLY wanted the cognac/pepita interior. Its one of my favorite interior combos I've seen on a modern porsche and no idea if it will be available on 992.2
- The .2 cars to me are always improvements (hurts to admit) and will likely fix some of the awkward spots on the 992 like the rear deck lid that I've never been a big fan of. It will also inevitably be a bit faster and have some cool options and potentially crazy new hybrid powertrains available. Ultimately I decided that the Targa4S i have coming will be plenty fast for me no matter what and that I'll just have to deal with the fact that the .2 may be SLIGHTLY better looking. I also got a manual transmission so I'm already making this car more about driving enjoyment than ultimate performance.
- I optioned sport design and the expensive headlights to future proof it a bit as bumpers and headlights become the immediate aging points of .1 cars.

From the prototypes seen so far the exterior isn't going to change much, nor the interior save for the removal of the analog tachometer - the 992.2 will be a full digital gauge cluster.

What's unknown is the extent of the engine changes, some say that it could be a carry over from the current 3.0L turbo, some say it's a 4.0L naturally aspirated engine, and others say it's a hybrid with a combination of both engines. We do know that some of the models will most assuredly be hybrids (spy shots of the new gauge cluster has shown a battery power meter) , but we don't know the extent of the hybridization within the model range.

If you want a car and a manual, I would get a 992.1 while you can. The only constant is change and I have been speculating that with emissions and Porsche aiming for higher profit margins due to the company's IPO, you may see hybrid for power/efficiency and justification of an even higher MSRP and at the cost of the manual. But who knows.

Personally I would jump on the current available allocation. Then put down a second deposit and get back in line for the 992.2

Well, you definitively know you have one now vs waiting some more (a lot more) for what will mostly be a similar car. Just buy the offering now.

If you're lucky and time it right, the new car will arrive just before the 2nd year service/maintenance is due on the 992.1.

You’re the only one that knows for sure what you’re willing risk and/or accept. For me personally the full digital dash rumour was enough to make me not want to wait.

Agreed - the fully digital dash is a big negative for me too, but the thought of missing out on a 4.0 NA flat 6 is my biggest reluctance

I think the 4.0 rumors are overblown. Only way I *personally* believe you see the 4.0 is in conjunction with the hybrid system or in some super expensive unobtainable special edition.

I never understand the point of these musings, especially when supply is so short and when values make it so you can trade a .1 for a .2 without losing your shirt.

This! No one is getting a 4.0na engine in an S or gts version. Some special addition? Probably

Get both.

Get the 992.1 now.

Then spec your 992.2 when it is announced and allocations are handed out to dealers.

The money you lose in trading from .1 to .2 will be easily made up for not having a car for 2+ years if you simply just wait for the 992.2
