Dealer up charge on 911s?
I am in the LA area and looking to get a 911. All the dealerships here are charging above list price to get a 911.
Is this normal? Or am I getting screwed?
A dealership I just spoke to wanted $30k over MSRP for a GTS they had on the lot.
Does anyone have experience in the LA area on what I should be paying?

You should read the entire thread to get an idea of what is going on.

Hi Steve, welcome to Rennlist.
There are many, many (did I say many) forum posts about additional dealer mark-up (ADM).
While every buyer's experience is unique, you'll see common threads about ADM that relate to region, model, allocations and dealer relationships.
Happy reading. Bring your checkbook.

If you want to differentiate yourself, offer a mark up. But from my experience, $30k is excessive. I would call around with $10k being my limit.
YMMV

SoCal is notoriously bad.
When I started looking for my GTS 3 mo ago, I called bunch of SoCal dealerships and almost 50% had a GTS allocation but were also asking $20-$30k ADM. this even after the msrp inverse by pcna.
I simply refused to pay any. They brought it down to $15k. But I declined. Just against my principles.
I called a few more in CA next week and was able to get one at MSRP closer to my home.
my suggestion - don’t pay any ADM. Call around. You will get something at MSRP. Go visit all
your local dealerships in person. Makes a lot of difference esp at smaller dealerships.
May take a few months (I got lucky) but as the other thread says - ADMs are coming down. MSRP increases, softer macro climate and Porsche’s increased build plan are all working for you imo.

California is a tough market. I am in the Bay Area, and I recently was able to nab a Carrera S Cab for MSRP. This was my third car from this particular dealership. I was on a waitlist for a GTS at $5k over when this one came in. I bought the S at MSRP and shifted my deposit to a Turbo S at MSRP.
At the time, I did reach out to several So Cal dealers and found the markups on the GTS were exorbitant. Bay Area has similar crazy markups. History with the dealership helps.

As others mentioned there are numerous threads now on this.
In a nutshell though and contrary to some of the replies you will get on past experiences, the ugly truth is in the Southern California market with a population nearing 24 million people, new 911 allocations are not being handed out for msrp right now (July 2023). Does not matter what trim. None, Zero, Zip. You have to pay to play.
The only exceptions could be for an occasional heavy hitting VIP or involve some kind story attached to that magical reported msrp deal which in the end will again not truly equate to paying sicker.

Making a blanket statement like yours, across almost 200 dealers in the US is disingenuous. You don’t have that data in front of you, and can’t pretend to have it.

Interesting, Carlsbad just called me wanting to know if I was still interested. Apparently they just received allocations and they’re going through their waitlist. I didn’t ask what ADM they wanted.
In today’s market, you’ll pay even more ADM for a car sitting on the lot. Even then, they don’t sit long.

ADMs are definitely local market based and previous dealership relationships based.
I was able to secure a MSRP C4GTS allocation after placing a deposit in late 1/2023 and take delivery a few weeks ago here in fly over country (Chicagoland). We're lucky in Chicagoland that there are 6 dealerships competing for business so it's kind of a perfect combination of demand/supply. I have a history with my dealership having purchased several Porsches but decades ago (last one before the 992 GTS was a 997 TT-S).
